Daily Fantasy Golf: Sony Open Picks & Projections
This week’s tournament features a full field with some of the biggest names in golf. While Tiger and Phil are still on vacation, the majority of the other PGA stars will all be playing in this week’s Sony Open held at the Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii. This event will feature a cut so targeting players that you feel confident in to play through the weekend will be critical this week.
Sony Open Picks
- Chris Kirk: $18,735 – Kirk had a great finish to the 2012-13 season and is off to a great start again this season. He played in last week’s even which was also held in Hawaii which should help as he won’t have to travel in for the event. Kirk finished tied for 5th in this event last season and I’m expecting him to have a strong showing again this year.
- Charles Howell III: $21,921 – Howell also played in this event last season and had an even better finish than Kirk. He ended up shooting 17 under which was good enough for a 3rd place finish. Howell really seems to play well at the beginning of each season and he should be in for a strong finish this week. His price is affordable and he should push for a top-10 finish.
- Russell Henley: $16,204 – I like Henley for a couple of different reasons this week. First, and most importantly, is the fact that Henley won this event last year and he sort of ran away from the competition with a 3-shot victory. Henley is cheap and is one of the better value plays this week if you are trying to fit one of the top names into your lineup.
- Jimmy Walker: $17,343 – Walker has had an excellent start to the season. He has already entered 5 events and has made the cut all 5 times. He’s also put together 2 top-10 finishes in those events. Walker struggled a bit last week in Hawaii, but he made plenty of birdies. If he can avoid the costly mistakes this week, I think he will find himself in the top-10 again.
- Other Notables: Tim Clark $21,020, Hideki Matsuyama $18,147, Ryan Palmer: $14,932, and Bo Van Pelt $15,225
Sony Open Projections
This week’s projections only account for the Vegas odds with a few minor adjustments. I left off the cut % and top 10 finishes as this is one of the first major events of the year. As the season goes along, I will add those into the projections formula. All of the salaries and projections listed are using DraftStreet’s salaries and scoring system.
