DraftKings $5,000,000 Week 1 NFL Kickoff Bash
Thirty-seven days, ladies and gentlemen. Sunday of Week 1 in the NFL is arguably the greatest day of the year; for one, the weather is still warm, and at this point in the season every fan thinks their team has a “real chance” to make a Super Bowl run, unless of course you live in Jacksonville (and for some reason root for the Jaguars)… or Buffalo (find a new city to live in and just root for them there, seriously.. I hear Jacksonville is nice). Sadly, the first thing that came to my mind when I thought of 2013 Opening Weekend was Zach Sudfeld. I bought into the pre-season hype and I mean come on, how could an athletic Patriots tight end not produce fantasy points? Aaron Hernandez did it, and he’s obviously no Albert Einstein, so I’m not one to blame it on Sudfeld not picking up the offense; he’s just not very good at football (he got what he deserved anyway, a one-way trip from New England to the Jets). Based on Sudfeld being the first thing to come to mind, you can get an idea of how my 2013 Week 1 went. Enough of this depressing dialogue, let’s get to the real reason you’re all here: DraftKings has announced their plans for opening weekend, and it’s legitimately great stuff. The most excited I’ve been for Week 1 was when I saw this announcement, and I think we can all get excited about a $5,000,000 Kickoff Bash, featuring the Sunday Million ($100,000 to 1st)!
The $5,000,000 Kickoff Bash is a combination of all Week 1 contests, but I’ll break down the few that are the most intriguing. Even as someone who has only been involved with this industry for a relatively short time, it’s still really eye-popping to see a contest that lasts just two days award $100,000 to first place. The Sunday Million is the featured Week 1 tournament, which will pay out $100K to first and will cost $200 to enter.

Next up is the $500,000 Grid Iron, which will pay out six figures to first place and is a much more bankroll-friendly tournament with just a $27 entry fee. If you’re a lower volume player and can’t afford the $200 buy-in, this one is for you.

If you’ve been frequenting the Check Swing this MLB season, here’s the NFL equivalent, but with a much larger prize pool! It’ll cost just $12 to enter, and you’ll be able to satellite your way in for even less (the same goes for the Sunday Million and $500K Grid Iron). The field will be big, but a shot at $10K for just $12 is mighty appealing.

Think the Hail Mary is nice? How about a $100,000 tournament with an entry fee of just TWO DOLLARS! The prize pool and top payouts mirror the Hail Mary, but at a fraction of the cost. If you’re a micro-grinder that enjoys the multi-entry GPP experience, this one has your name written all over it.

There will be a lot on the line during Week 1, so hopefully you guys can avoid the Zach Sudfeld of the 2014 Opening Weekend and can instead dig out the Anquan Boldin (42.8 DK points in Week 1 last year, as I’m sure DirtyGirl15, the winner of last year’s Kickoff Million remembers). We’ll be ramping up on our NFL content as August wears on, so keep your eyes peeled on the homepage! Here’s to making it through the next month and change without regular season football… Just 37 days till the real madness begins, just 37 days!
