Beermakersfan Recaps his Trip to Vegas for the FFFC Finals

A Second Chance

Chris Prince, known as Beermakersfan to the Daily Fantasy World, was devastated when he finished two sports short of a trip to Vegas in the Week 1 FFFC Qualifier. Little did he know that one disqualification and one freeroll later, he’d redeem himself. Beermakersfan is a true ‘grinder’. Currently ranked #12, he’s been tearing up the scene for a while now. Chris has amassed over $22,000 in winnings, and competes in all the major sports; sometimes even NASCAR. I recently got the chance to talk to Chris about his trip to Vegas for the FFFC and his thoughts on Daily Fantasy; here’s what he had to say!

Having a Beer with Beermakersfan

Congrats on making it to the FFFC! Tell me about your experience in Las Vegas, and the FanDuel events and how things went overall.

Thanks!! The trip to Vegas was awesome. Everything was done first class all the way and I have to give kudos to FanDuel and their entire staff for a job well done!!

What was the best part about the trip?

Getting to meet some of the best daily fantasy sports minds was great; it was a great bunch of guys to be around. And of course, the opportunity to win $25,000 was pretty sweet too.

What was the worst?

By far the worst part of the trip, easy answer here, was my performance on Sunday, very disappointing.

So you just snuck in for qualifying. Tell us about the surprise freeroll and how you were able to earn the last spot to the FFFC?

I was completely shocked when I heard about the freeroll, and it was different than most FFFC weeks because I was limited to one entry. I had to make some tough choices, but things seemed to go my way that last week.

What were your keys to victory in winning the freeroll? Who were your best picks?

I had a pretty good Sunday and was sitting in about 90th place going into the Monday Night game and I still had Philip Rivers and Mike Tolbert to go and both had a huge game which propelled my team to the top of the freeroll.

Were you nervous watching/sweating the freeroll qualification?

Oh yeah! Monday Night made for an interesting evening; sweating out each play until I finally appeared on the leader board. Then Rivers threw another TD pass to send me on to Vegas!

When you made it to Vegas, you used the lineup below. Give me a one liner about each player on your roster:

Based on your results, it seems baseball is your favorite/best sport. I’ve also noticed that you didn’t play too much football outside of the FFFC contests. Is this correct, and if so, why do you prefer baseball and what led you to participate in the FFFC contests?

I got my start in daily fantasy playing baseball and came up with a pretty good system that led to some good results. I absolutely love fantasy football, and you’re right, I didn’t play much outside of the FFFC because I made that a focus along with my big money season-long leagues. But I loved the FFFC concept and tried to enter at least 3-5 teams per week. I’m looking forward to baseball season that’s for sure!!

Enough about the FFFC. How long have you been ‘grinding’ daily fantasy sports?

A little less than a year now, I started right around last baseball season.

How many contests do you participate in each week and across which sites?

I mostly play on FanDuel, and lately I’ve been sticking with the big contests in NFL and NBA but I’ve been dabbling on a few other sites like Fantasy Factor and DraftStreet as well. During baseball season I may play anywhere from 10-40 matches a day across all different price ranges.

That’s a lot of action! You’re currently ranked #10 on RotoGrinders (#12 at time of publishing). What to you attribute your success to?

Baseball season was good to me, hopefully leads me back up the leader board this year.

What is your typical buy-in range? Do you have any specific Bankroll strategies?

I tend to play mostly $10, $25 and $50 matches. I also like to get into some of the 5 and 10 player fields because it’s a good payout for a small buy-in. As for bankroll, I like to make sure I have enough in reserve that a bad day doesn’t break the bank, because there will be bad days if you do this long enough.

Do you play any fields sizes other than heads up? What are your thoughts on larger fields sizes? Love the 5 and 10 player leagues.

These new big tournaments on FanDuel have been great! I’m hoping that they continue this into MLB, maybe even a FFBC?!?

Do you play poker or bet on sports? If so, what are your thoughts on Daily Fantasy in relation to the two?

I do a little bit of both, but honestly prefer daily fantasy because you can take some of the luck out of it with the right combination of research and knowledge. This is true in poker and sports betting as well, but I just feel you can control your outcomes a little better in daily fantasy. However, luck will always be a part of the equation.

What aspect of Daily Fantasy Sports do you think sites could improve on making better? What is your favorite aspect currently?

I believe the rake could be a little lower, especially as the site grows and gains more popularity. A lower rake could keep some of the newer players around longer. Also, getting the word out on these sites through more advertising to bring in more people would be beneficial. My favorite aspects are the large tournaments with big payouts. I love playing these, and feel they help to bring in more people to the sites which is great for all of us, the bigger the better. And finally, the ability to win a little money doing something you enjoy is just awesome!!
