Pitcher Grind Down
- Roberto Hernandez – Fausto errrrrrr… Roberto Hernandez takes the mound for the Dodgers tonight. He’s had a pretty average season with a 3.78 ERA (4.53 xFIP) with a K/9 of 5.7. He’s walking nearly 4 batters per 9 innings and his K-rate is not high enough to make up for it. While the Diamondbacks have a very depleted offense, I see Hernandez as a subpar fantasy option tonight. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5900 FD, $11900 DD, $6800 DK, $NA FF, $14600 SS, $11900 FTD
- Trevor Cahill – Cahill is having himself a very nice month of August. He is sporting a 2.33 ERA with 22 K’s over 27 innings of work. He’s been a very good strikeout pitcher this season averaging over 8 K’s per 9 innings, but he does walk a lot of batters. He also draws a tough matchup against the Dodgers who are ranked 7th in wOBA vs. RH pitching and 2nd in wOBA on the road. Rating = 4
Salaries: $6000 FD, $9750 DD, $7000 DK, $ FF, $13000 SS, $9750 FTD

LA Dodgers
Adrian Gonzalez – Just looking at the numbers, A-Gon may be the best play at any position tonight. He has great BvP (11/24 with 5 XBH’s), a great matchup in terms of handedness (Cahill is giving up a .386 wOBA to LH hitters), and this may be his favorite ballpark to play in. Since the start of 2011, A-Gon is 27/65 with 11 XBH’s and 24 RBI’s in Chase Field.
Additional Plays: Dee Gordon, Yasiel Puig
Arizona
Miguel Montero – Hernandez has kept LH hitters in check this season, but has given up a career .350 wOBA to batters from the left side of the plate. Montero is a solid value play at catcher tonight as he has a .350 wOBA vs. RH pitching and a .336 wOBA at home this season.
Additional Plays: David Peralta, Ender Inciarte

Pitcher Grind Down
- Nathan Eovaldi – Eovaldi is another pitcher that no one is going to target tonight. He has an average ERA (4.06) and a subpar K/9 (6.2). He is a huge underdog against a very powerful Angels offense. I could quote some more numbers, but basically he’s not a strong play tonight. Rating = 4
Salaries: $6100 FD, $12500 DD, $6300 DK, $NA FF, $17100 SS, $12500 FTD
- Matt Shoemaker – Shoemaker is coming off of a terrific outing against the Red Sox in Fenway. He threw 7 and 2/3 scoreless innings and struck out 9 batters. Shoemaker has a terrific K/9 of 8.9 on the season. He’ll look to keep it rolling tonight against the Marlins who are one of the most strikeout happy teams in all of baseball. The upside is definitely there and Vegas expects him to see some run support as he is a -185 favorite. His price on DK seems awfully cheap. Rating = 6.5
Salaries: $7900 FD, $14950 DD, $7300 DK, $ FF, $23100 SS, $13650 FTD

Miami
Christian Yelich – Yelich has been on a tear over the last couple of weeks. Over his last 10 games he has 20 hits, 9 runs, and 7 walks. That means that he’s safely reach base 27 times in his last 10 games. That’s a fantasy baseball stud if I’ve ever seen one. He should be able to keep it going against Shoemaker who has struggled with LH hitters.
Additional Plays: None
LA Angels
Kole Calhoun – Eovaldi has kept RH hitters in check this season, but has given up a .346 wOBA to LH hitters. Josh Hamilton is also in play here, but I think Calhoun is the much safer play of the two for cash games.
Additional Plays: Josh Hamilton, Erick Aybar

Pitcher Grind Down
- Nick Martinez – Martinez has an ERA (5.17) that is identical to his K/9. That’s a huge red flag. Even worse is the fact that he has given up close to a .400 wOBA to LH hitters this season and the M’s lineup is littered with talented LH bats. He garners zero interest from me tonight. Rating = 2
Salaries: $5000 FD, $8950 DD, $6000 DK, $NA FF, $13000 SS, $8950 FTD
- James Paxton – Paxton’s price across the industry differs drastically. He’s $9,200 on DK, but only $5,500 on FD. He’s way too expensive on DK, but he makes an interesting GPP play on FD because his price is so low. Paxton is a young LH pitcher with terrific strikeout potential. In his 6 starts this season, he is averaging 8 K’s per 9 innings. Rating = 5.5
Salaries: $5500 FD, $12000 DD, $9200 DK, $ FF, $21600 SS, $12000 FTD

Texas
Alex Rios – Rios makes a terrific value play once again tonight. He has mashed LH pitching this season with a .333 batting average and a .393 wOBA. He’s very cheap on both FD and DK.
Additional Plays: Adrian Beltre
Seattle
Kyle Seager – Seager was a disappointment last night so hopefully that will make people weary of using him again tonight. You want to target Seager when he is at home facing a weak RH pitcher. Everything is lining up for a monster game from Seager.
Additional Plays: Dustin Ackley, Robinson Cano

Pitcher Grind Down
- Jimmy Nelson – Nelson has given up at least 2 earned runs in each of his last 7 games. On the season he owns a 4.15 ERA with a K/9 of 7.2. On a night with so many pitching options, he just doesn’t stand out as a must play even though he does draw a great matchup against the Padres in Petco. Rating = 5.5
Salaries: $ FD, $10800 DD, $6400 DK, $NA FF, $16300 SS, $10800 FTD
- Tyson Ross – Ross pitching at home is a good thing. He owns a 1.94 ERA at Petco this season with 92 K’s over 88 innings of work. He’s also held opponents to an incredibly low .191 batting average at home. He will have the platoon advantage tonight against a RH heavy Brewers lineup and is another top ace to throw into the mix. Rating = 7.5

Pitcher Grind Down
- Jorge De La Rosa – De La Rosa is one of the biggest underdogs on the schedule tonight. He has struggled on the road this season with a 5.35 ERA while giving up a .330 wOBA to his opponents. He’ll likely see little to no run support and will likely be stuck with the loss. His outlook doesn’t look great tonight. Rating = 3
Salaries: $7000 FD, $12950 DD, $6200 DK, $NA FF, $18200 SS, $12950 FTD
- Madison Bumgarner – Just when you thought that the starting pitcher picture couldn’t get any more fuzzy, Bumgarner will also be on the mound. He’s had some funky home/road splits this season, but he has pitched well at AT&T Park throughout his career so I’m not going to factor that in tonight. Bumgarner owns a 3.17 ERA on the season with a K/9 of 9.2 this season. He has a terrific matchup against the Rockies who are ranked 27th in road wOBA while striking out at a 24% clip. He’s right up there with Cueto as the top pitching option tonight. Rating = 9
Salaries: $9600 FD, $20600 DD, $9500 DK, $ FF, $27400 SS, $19950 FTD

Avoid all Rockies against Bumgarner tonight.
San Francisco
Hunter Pence – Pence gets a slight edge over Posey as the top play here because he has had a better track record against De La Rosa. Both players crush LH pitching, but Pence is 6/21 with 4 XBH’s off of De La Rosa while Posey is only 7/25 with 2 XBH’s.
Additional Plays: Buster Posey
