NHL DFS Picks: Slate Summary for Saturday, March 23rd

Slate Overview

Good luck to all of those at the DraftKings Fantasy Hockey World Championship! I wish I was there competing with you, but hopefully someone in the RG community can take it down. I’m not sure what the slate will be for them, although I’d guess it’ll be the same one as ours. Normally they consider chopping off the late games, but I don’t think they have that luxury given how small the slate already is.

As for the slate, I’d call it a pretty interesting one. It’s strangely only a seven-gamer, which is quite light for a Saturday night. The headline matchup is without question the Oilers and Maple Leafs, as McDavid and Matthews square off. The team in the most favorable spot is the Golden Knights, who take on the Blue Jackets on the second half of a back-to-back. Then there’s a drop off and a slew of teams in good but not great spots.

I think the battle of terrible teams between the Blackhawks and Sharks will be pretty popular, and if it gains enough steam, I’m fine looking elsewhere because there’s a reason these are arguably the worst teams in the NHL. I don’t see nearly as many game-time decisions for tonight as previous nights, but stay tuned in the Discord for any updates.

Let’s start at the very top and I’ll give my thoughts overall. I don’t feel strongly about McDavid vs. Matthews, although I think I give a slight lean to Matthews given that he’s at home. But as of now, I’m not sure that I’m going to prioritize either because I have a decent amount of respect for the opposition. It’s a similar story with Nikita Kucherov in that I respect the Kings enough to not make him a smash play. These guys are superstars capable of breaking a slate every night; just know that matchups are neutral at best.

Jack Eichel
DraftKings $8,300

The Golden Knights aren’t quite in the “nearly unfadeable” territory like I considered the Lightning the other night or the Avalanche last night, but they are clearly in a great spot. Jack Eichel is never considered in that upper echelon of players with the likes of McDavid/Matthews/MacKinnon/etc., but he’s definitely in that next tier of stars. He has upped his play lately

Other Options: Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews, Jack Hughes
