PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson
Long-time grinder, STLCardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!
Welcome back, golf grinders! Another fun golf week is in store with THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson on the schedule. We are coming off quite a few strong field events in a row and a weird team event last week, so it’s no surprise that this week is a bit of a “lull” in the schedule. That gives us a very weak field for this tournament. We also have a boring course hosting the event, as there is little trouble around this venue. Rain and wind are also in the forecast. Will Zalatoris has withdrawn. It’s just a mess out there this week, but there is still money to be won in DFS, and everyone has the same player pool to navigate!
Editor’s Note: RotoGrinders has partnered with Betsperts Golf and the Rabbit Hole!

TPC Craig Ranch will be the host venue for this event for the fourth time, though we no longer have AT&T as a title sponsor. THE CJ CUP has been rebranded with this event, which feels a bit odd. In any case, TPC Craig Ranch is a long par 71 that can stretch to nearly 7,500 yards, but it does not offer much defense for today’s golfers. K.H. Lee won each of the first two editions, getting to -25 and -26 in his two wins (that would be -21 and -22 under the current setup, as one of the par fives has been transitioned to a par four since those first two editions). Jason Day won the event last year at -23. As usual, a birdie fest is in store unless winds kick up, which is a possibility this week. The wind (and some water) is the main defense for this course, but it should still play well under par on average. I will prioritize the bigger hitters, the strong tee-to-green players, and birdie makers.
It’s also worth noting that, with strong scoring conditions, getting as many golfers through the cut line is extra imperative this week.
Let’s take a look at some of my favorite GPP picks for this week!
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson
Alex Noren
DraftKings: $9,500
FanDuel: $11,100
Yahoo: $36
I’m at a loss about how to handle the top of this field with any sort of conviction.
We don’t have Scottie Scheffler in the field, and the field is noticeably weaker than any we have seen over the past two months.
I can’t in good faith go for Jordan Spieth as a betting favorite for the event.
Jason Day doesn’t seem to be in top form at the moment.
I originally had Will Zalatoris here, but then he withdrew about 45 minutes after I had conviction with him.
Now I’m going with Alex Noren, who always seems to be underappreciated in DFS circles despite a solid PGA TOUR career. He hits plenty of greens and keeps himself in contention more often than many people realize, and he has a pair of top-25 finishes on his resume at this course. His elite skills (greens in regulation and scrambling) aren’t really the ones I want to prioritize necessarily, but he also doesn’t have a lot of weaknesses and is in decent form. He has not missed a cut in nine starts this season and has five straight top 25s on his resume heading into this event.
