Traditional MLB DFS formats aren’t the only way to profit from daily fantasy baseball. MLB PrizePicks is a great fantasy pick’em site where we can take today’s projections versus theirs and combine two or more baseball predictions for sizeable payouts.

In this space, we’ll explore a few PrizePicks plays for the upcoming MLB slate. This article isn’t the be-all, end-all of great plays or a recommendation for a full ticket; it’s simply a starting place for you to explore thinking about the game within the game. Maybe you want to scatter these plays across entries. Maybe there are only two or three you think are worth playing. Daily fantasy pick’em gives us the flexibility to make only the plays in which we think there is value rather than being forced to create a full lineup while competing against the best DFS players in the industry.

PrizePicks is daily fantasy baseball made simple, and our Fantasy Pick’em Tool makes the process even simpler.

All stats cited are since the start of the 2023 season unless otherwise noted.

MLB PrizePicks Predictions for Thursday, May 2nd

Edward Cabrera MORE Than 7.5 Strikeouts (DEMON)

A simple spot to not overthink. Edward Cabrera faces the Rockies in loanDepot Park, which is probably the biggest ballpark downgrade the Rockies can face. Cabrera has a 10.88 K/9 — 12.33 this season — and the Rockies lineup has a 27.9% K rate against RHP. Literally, everyone in the lineup is over 23.5%; with 8 of whom are 25% and higher. We have Cabrera projected for 7.4 Ks through 88 pitches, but we’ve seen him throw 96 this season, so there is a decent ceiling. The range of outcomes is wider on the higher end of MORE than 7.5 than the LESS than. With the DEMON boost, we take the free cheese.

Kyle Harrison MORE Than 15.5 Outs (DEMON)

Kyle Harrison has a standard 5.5 strikeout projection on PrizePicks that is rated okay by our Fantasy Pick’em Tool, but the DEMON boost on 15.5 outs is probably the play. Harrison was a great strikeout pitcher with control problems in the minors. In MLB, he’s been an average-strikeout pitcher with solid control. The Red Sox’ 29% K rate against LHP says that Harrison should be able to tap into the minor league wild stuff to generate chases and whiffs to shut Boston down and go deeper into the 6 inning of the day game after a bullpen night game. Just as we don’t overthink pitchers against the A’s and Rockies, we shouldn’t overthink lefties against the Red Sox.

Nathan Eovaldi MORE Than 18.5 Outs (DEMON)

18.5 is a high projection, but when you figure that Nathan Eovaldi has a floor of around 16 outs and a ceiling in the neighborhood of 21, our 18-out projection makes a lot of sense. Straight-up, I’d want maybe 17. MORE than 18.5 with the DEMON boost is perfectly fine.

All projections referenced are accurate at the time of writing but subject to change.

Not a great slate. Be careful with your money. Play fewer contests than you normally do if need be, but go big on the DEMON boosts for a low-risk, high-reward day. Don’t forget about Guardians hitting in the island night game against Spencer Arrighetti, either. He has great strikeout stuff, but he’s among the wildest pitchers in baseball. Cleveland doesn’t strike out much at all, so it’s a great spot to target their hitters’ fantasy scores.
