Introduction to DraftDay NBA

rg misc draft day nba lineup

DraftDay’s NBA game is in full-effect now, so I thought it would be good to give an intro to our readers to the nuances of their NBA game since there’s always a learning curve involved when hopping onto a new Daily Fantasy site. We haven’t had much coverage of DraftDay here on RotoGrinders yet, and I really don’t know why. This site and playerbase are great, and personally I will be upping my NBA play on the site moving forward. The DraftDay NBA scoring system is unique (see table below), so you can get a good edge if you pay attention to the nuances, DD is doing a great job of recruiting new players to the industry through their connections with the Poker industry so the competition is relatively softer than some other sites, and they run a daily World B Free $100 NBA Freeroll! What more can you ask for?

Below I’ll take a look at the unique NBA Scoring on DraftDay and give you a list of the players that benefit the most using DraftDay’s NBA Scoring. If you’re looking to get started on DraftDay, RotoGrinders offers a 20% Deposit Bonus up to 30%, just check out the DraftDay Review for more details.

Draft Day Fantasy NBA Scoring

I’ll break this down for you in terms of comparing to FanDuel and DraftStreet, since most of our users play on either or both of those sites. If for some reason you don’t, check out the FanDuel Review or DraftStreet Review to see what their scoring systems are first. The table below has the NBA Scoring for DraftDay:

OFFENSE
FG Made = 2 pts
FG Miss = -0.25 pts
3 pt Made = 4 pts
FT made = 1 pt
FT miss = -0.5 pt
Assist = 1 pt
Rebound = 1 pt
DEFENSE
Steal = 2 pts
Block = 2 pts
Turnover = -1 pt

Shooting – Let’s talk about shooting first, since this is the most noteworthy category. Like FD and DS, you get 2 points for a FG, however you get FOUR Points for a made 3-Pointer (note: 4 points total for a made 3 pointer). As confusing as that sounds, it’s extremely important to remember while setting your lineup. This makes 3-Point shooters extremely valuable compared to other setups.

The next important note on shooting are the negative point categories. DraftDay went more the DraftStreet route in penalizing for missed FGs and missed FTs, but only takes off -0.25 for missed FGs instead of -0.5 like DraftStreet. In comparison, FanDuel doesn’t penalize for either.

Rebounds/Assists – To make up for the missed shot penalties, DraftStreet decided to reward rebounding and assists. DraftDay decided not to. You get just 1 point for Rebounds and Assists. This isn’t good or bad, it’s just another important note, and another reason why the ‘shooter’ is your friend on DD.

Steals/Blocks/Turnovers – Steals, Blocks and Turnovers are scored the same on DraftDay as FD and DS: 2 points for a Steal or Block, and -1 point for a turnover. Nothing too noteworthy here.

DraftDay: NBA Players to Target

What I’ve done in the table below is taken the Pre-Season NBA Player Projections for NBA and applied them to FanDuel, DraftStreet and DraftDay’s different scoring systems. Then I’ve calculated the players that are both helped the most, and hurt the most, with DraftDay’s Scoring system as compared to FanDuel and DraftStreet. Check out the “-Change” column for the site you normally play on to see. You’ll notice that from both sites, the 3-Point Specialists see the biggest increase in % PPG, like J.J. Redick and Nick Young. This is very important to keep in mind when setting your DraftDay NBA lineups. From DraftStreet, the Rebound and Assist Specialists like Marcus Camby, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul and Steve Nash take the biggest hits, and from FanDuel, those with poor FG and FT%s take the hit:
