Jose De Leon: It was a pretty solid debut for De Leon, who struck out nine batters on his way to a win and looking more than capable of pitching at this level. He did allow some runs to cross the plate, but that is to be expected. His pricing and the other pitching options available put him in a range where I like him a lot as a secondary pitcher on multiple-pitcher sites.

Bryan Mitchell: While Mitchell did hold the Blue Jays scoreless in his first start of the season, the fantasy value was pretty minimal and the risk of ruin was far higher than the result. He is not going to strike a ton of batters out and the walks are concerning. I see no reason to put Mitchell in any of our lineups tonight.

Dodgers: Los Angeles is capable of doing big things and this is a pitcher I expect to get into some trouble on multiple occasions. It is Yankee Stadium, so naturally those left-handed bats with pop are all the more intriguing as that short porch in right could get some action.

NY Yankees
Yankees: The Yankees do not have a lineup that brings too much consistency to the table outside of Gary Sanchez, who has been fantastic since his call up. There is potential to put up some runs against the young De Leon, but I really do not like the upside as much as some other teams.

Rafael Montero: I hope the Nationals have their walking shoes tonight as Montero has been allowing a ton of free passes in his limited opportunity to start for New York. With a tough Nationals lineup and a propensity to put himself in bad situations, Montero is too risky for us to use in our lineups tonight.

Nationals: Sure, those walks Montero is going to give out are not exciting for fantasy purposes, but it is what happens as a result of the free pass that makes the Nationals a good option tonight. The bottom of the order may be struggling a bit, but this is the perfect scenario to grab some Ramos and Zimmermann in tournaments as they are likely to have RBI potential.

Gerrit Cole: If you have already scoped out the slate tonight, then pitching should have become more clear as the options are pretty limited overall. This game feature two guys that I would not mind in my lineups, with Cole taking one of the top spots overall on the slate. His strikeout numbers have continued to decline from what we saw last year, but this is a Phillies squad that is very friendly in that department, giving him even more upside tonight. With all that said, he has been dealing with an elbow injury and has not started a game since late August, which presents some risk for those considering him in cash.

Jeremy Hellickson: We have seen this roller coaster from Hellickson before as he will go through streaks where he looks great, then we get the results from his last three games and scratch our heads. The ability to shut down this lineup is there, and the pricing makes him a great tournament play as he will allow for us to grab some bigger bats, all the while carrying decent upside in this one.

Pirates: I was one of those who expected far better production from this Pirates squad coming into the season, and while it’s good to see from my Cardinals fandom perspective, it is also disappointing from a fantasy perspective. Sure, they have dealt with injuries, but the consistency is not there and this is not an easy matchup despite Hellickson’s recent struggles.

Phillies: It has to be a pretty bad pitcher in order for me to grab any exposure to a Phillies bat at this point of the season, and that simply is not the case tonight. Cole may be dealing with some arm issues, but there is really nobody here that I want.

Jake Odorizzi: It was an ugly outing in his last start, and a bit concerning to say the least. He is a pretty good real-life pitcher that just does not translate to fantasy production for the most part. I tend to steer clear of pitchers facing Toronto unless there is solid strikeout potential which I just do not see with Odorizzi.

Francisco Liriano: Toronto is bringing the big lefty out of the pen to grab a spot start here. He has maintained solid strikeout numbers throughout his career, but it is the hard contact and runs allowed that are troubling. Considering the modest price and the potential to rack up strikeouts, he is one of my favorite tournament plays, even against a Tampa squad that still has a couple bats that hit lefties well.

Ervin Santana: I like Santana at this price range in general, but not against the Tigers tonight. He has shown the ability to strike people out lately, but with a tough offense on the other side it’s just not worth the risk for me. You can make a case for Santana as a secondary pitcher in tournaments, I suppose, but there are better options out there.
