NHL DFS Picks: Slate Summary for Saturday, April 13th

Slate Overview

I’ve got the TV outside with the Masters on, chicken wings in my hand, and the world’s biggest smile on face. Or at least it was until my laptop overheated and I lost a portion of the article. And then RG had a quick internal issue when saving later and lost another chunk. So it hasn’t been the most efficient path to get this article here, but we’ve arrived. I’ll be honest, I’m more excited about the Masters today than NHL, but I won’t let it impact the quality of this article (hopefully). It’s chalk Nashville Predators night, which would normally be my jam as a Nashville native, but the contest sizes make it hard to get too excited. With UFC, PGA, MLB, and NBA all competing for your dollar, it’s not surprising that the contests are atrocious. For reference, the TOTAL prize pool for the $333 is $10,000, which is lower than the usual FIRST PLACE prize. Yikes.

I’ll mention it again: It’s the time of year where lineup decisions can come out of nowhere due to the upcoming playoffs, so definitely keep tabs in the Discord channel. The biggest piece of news we have already is that Connor McDavid will be out yet again. It’s possible that others might rest players too, especially Nashville.

Here’s what I said earlier in the week about Matthews: “While Matthews hasn’t displayed quite the upside we might want lately, the consistency has been there. He has goals in 6 straight games and has extended his season-leading total to 66, the most since the 1995-96 season.” Copy and paste that for today. He’s now up to 68 goals thanks to a two-goal effort against the Devils. As strange as it sounds, the lack of elite upside thing sort of remained true, as he “only” had 23 DK points despite the two goals. It seems like a strange knock on someone scoring a historic number of goals, but his lack of assists or 5+ SOG bonuses lately has hampered his ability to put up 25+ DK points. Still, he’s the most reliable option on the board and will also be at home.
