2024 PGA Championship Weather Forecast and Projections
We’re teeing off for the PGA Championship this week in Louisville, KY, and it’s going to be a wet one.
As usual in my golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts. With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

Thursday, May 16th
We start things off great. Could be a bit of patchy fog early, and there is a chance for rain in the very late afternoon…but winds are light and it’s dry for most of the day.
Friday, May 17th
Rain takes center stage. Likely some lighter showers in the morning, with heavier rain possible in the afternoon. Rain delay/postponement is possible. Winds start at 5-10 MPH, increasing to over 10 MPH by the afternoon.
Saturday, May 18th
Another day with the threat for heavy rain and storms. I would say, at best, we’ll see a delay at times, and it’s possible they call the entire day off.
Sunday, May 19th
Thankfully we close things out on a high note. Sunday looks solid, with just a lower-end chance of some afternoon storms and light winds all day.
Monday, May 20th
Including this because we might need it…the weather Monday is perfect, with light winds all day and no rain.
PGA Championship Weather Thoughts
The weather, as a whole, is very ugly. Rain is likely to cause delays in the Friday/Saturday time frame, and even if they manage to play through most of those days, the weather will still be nasty (light rain, at best). Generally, I try to find ways to minimize wind, but the wind is never really the issue, it’s just the rain…and I don’t think there’s a clear way to avoid that either. Bottom line, the weather is gross, but there’s not much that can be done about it.
