2024 THE PLAYERS Championship Weather Forecast and Projections

We’re teeing off for THE PLAYERS Championship this week at TPC Sawgrass in Florida, and for the most part the weather will cooperate nicely!

As usual in my golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts. With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

THE PLAYERS Championship Weather Forecast

Thursday, March 14th

Really solid weather for Day 1, light (5 mph) winds to start, climbing a bit throughout the day but peaking at a bit under 10 mph sustained.

Friday, March 15th

We could see some patchy dense fog early, as well as some increasingly gusty winds. Morning winds will mostly be around 5-10 mph, increasing to 10-15 mph sustained with gusts over 20mph during the afternoon.

Saturday, March 16th

A fairly steady day wind-wise, with sustained winds holding around 10 mph for the day. Rain chances pick up a bit in the afternoon.

Sunday, March 17th

Another day with a chance of a Florida downpour, winds will start fairly light and climb to 10-15 mph by the afternoon.

THE PLAYERS Championship Weather Thoughts

The best way to minimize exposure to wind in the first couple of days is to go with a Thursday PM / Friday AM build. The difference won’t be enough to make or break you, but it should provide a slight advantage, so long as fog on Friday morning doesn’t delay the start to the round.
