2024 Valspar Championship Weather Forecast and Projections

We’re teeing off for the Valspar Championship this week in my lovely hometown of Palm Harbor, Florida… but the weather will be anything but lovely at times during the tournament.

As usual in my golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts. With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

Valspar Championship Weather Forecast

Thursday, March 21st

Well, we’ve got one nice day all tournament and this is it. Dry with winds between 5-10 mph throughout the day.

Friday, March 22nd

The wind picks up to around 15-20 mph sustained with gusts at 30 mph fairly uniformly through the day. Rain also works into the picture, with better chances for heavy rain in the afternoon, but it could be wet at any time. This round getting postponed at some point for lightning or rain is possible.

Saturday, March 23rd

The rain should be clear by the early morning, but winds are still problematic, likely 15-20 mph sustained with gusts near 30 mph throughout the day.

Sunday, March 24th

Dry but breezy, winds over 15 mph sustained with stronger gusts. As of now it looks to be mostly steady, not really relenting at any point in the day.

Valspar Championship Weather Thoughts

The “good” and “bad” here are clear as day. Thursday is the “good”… everything else is the “bad” (especially Friday with the elevated rain chances). The problem is that I don’t think there’s a clear way to take advantage of the good or bad weather, with windy conditions likely all day Friday and beyond.
