Golfers I Am Overweight On
Webb Simpson – There’s pretty much no denying that we have an awful field this week, with just one golfer in the top 25 of the FedEx Cup standings teeing it up at the Wyndham. That one golfer happens to be Webb Simpson. Even though he will require a premium pick, he makes sense as the top option on the board. He is second on the all-time money list at this event and has six top 15 finishes in nine career starts here. He’s a local native and even has a daughter named Wyndham. Enough said. Take him if you get the chance in the first round.
Russell Henley – The field strength drops off considerably this week, so you will feel a little uncomfortable if you draw a pick near the back half of the first round in a larger field game. A guy like Henley makes a lot of sense in that spot. He pops statistically for me this week with fantastic ranks in total driving (29th), ball striking (24th), and strokes gained putting (46th). He is always capable of getting hot with the putter, and that should help him roll into contention in this field. Be happy if you can grab him at a discounted pick because of a few pedestrian weeks leading up to this event.
Shane Lowry – While I feel a little uncomfortable about targeting Lowry at a top notch salary on the cap sites this week, he makes a lot of sense on DRAFT, where over 20 golfers are projected ahead of him. He’s a better golfer than that in this weak field, especially when you consider that his form has come around with three straight top 15 finishes worldwide leading up to this week. Target him in the second or third round if he falls to you.
