ESPN BET is now available in a state near you! It’s been the talk of the online sports betting industry since it was announced that ESPN is finally opening up its own sportsbook. PENN Entertainment runs ESPN BET through a partnership with the sports television network. ESPN BET kicked off in 17 states on November 14, 2023 at exactly 3 pm ET. This is very exciting news for fans of ESPN and sports betting.

All you need to do is click here to sign up for an account and enter the promo code GRINDERS when prompted. It’s that easy.

Update: On February 13, 2024, PENN Entertainment announced that it had purchased the WynnBET casino operating license in New York. This means that ESPN BET, which is owned by PENN, will use the existing WynnBET license to open up in NY sometime in 2024.

When Did ESPN BET Launch?

The sports betting world instantly changed when PENN Entertainment issued a press release in August announcing that it had entered into a transformative, exclusive online sports betting agreement with ESPN, Inc. The agreement gives PENN exclusive rights to use the ESPN name as a branded sportsbook for a 10-year term. PENN will pay $1.5 billion over the 10 years of the initial agreement. This is unquestionably the biggest online sportsbook market shakeup in the past several years.

The relationship could be extended for another 10 years if both companies agree to it. Their new and improved sportsbook launched as ESPN BET on November 14, 2023. ESPN BET arrived in 17 states on that day, just a few days before the sports-heavy Thanksgiving holiday week.

Timeline of ESPN BET Sportsbook

The ESPN BET Sportsbook launch brings with it a long history of being the top brand in sports programming, a large base of loyal customers, and enough market capitalization to potentially make it even bigger than Fanatics. Here’s a timeline of some important dates related to ESPN BET becoming a reality.

  • July 2015 – ESPN entered into a three-year advertising deal with DraftKings, estimated to be worth $250 million. The arrangement integrated DraftKings with ESPN’s television and digital content. It also gave DraftKings an exclusive on DFS advertising starting in January 2016.
  • February 2016 – ESPN ends its involvement with DraftKings after the Walt Disney Company, ESPN’s parent company, shifted course on the determination between DFS and gambling.
  • September 2020 – ESPN announced two multi-year agreements with Caesars Entertainment, Inc. and DraftKings Inc. These deals include marketing links on ESPN digital platforms to Caesars Entertainment’s sports betting partner DraftKings.
  • August 2023 – ESPN partners with PENN Entertainment to create ESPN BET. The Walt Disney Company also reported it had sold its remaining 5% stake in DraftKings.
  • November 2023 – ESPN BET launches in 17 states on November 14, 2023.

ESPN BET Promo Code States

ESPN BET Sportsbook will start out in the following states where PENN currently operates:

ESPN BET Kentucky

PENN Entertainment has big plans for the ESPN BET Kentucky sportsbook. Kentucky online sports betting became a reality in September 2023. That means that ESPN BET won’t be far behind the more established companies that are also competing in the state. We will be keeping a close eye on Kentucky to see if ESPN BET can keep up with the industry leaders.

ESPN BET North Carolina (coming soon)

ESPN BET is headed to the upcoming sports betting market of North Carolina. The state is slated to go live for legal online sports betting at some point in 2024.

PENN Entertainment has confirmed a partnership in North Carolina with Quail Hollow Club and the PGA Tour’s Wells Fargo Championship. The championship is set for May 6-12, 2024, so mobile sports betting in North Carolina should launch with ESPN BET prior to that.

Is ESPN BET a Legit Sportsbook?

The short answer is yes. The longer answer is yes because PENN Entertainment has owned and operated casinos for decades. The company knows how to keep customer information safe and comply with state regulations. PENN Entertainment successfully ran a sportsbook for several years, so it already has experience and expertise managing an online sportsbook. ESPN BET will be as legit as any other sportsbook, and PENN will use industry-leading security software to keep your financial and personal information safe.

ESPN BET Sportsbook App Available Sports

There was a time before streaming when it seemed every major sporting event was on one of the ESPN channels. Even now, ESPN broadcasts all four of the major American sports leagues and countless other major events. Sports betting is becoming more popular, and media companies are even including wagering information in their broadcasts. ESPN BET will be in a prime position for marketing during the ESPN programming schedule.

Here are some of the sports that you can wager on with the ESPN BET app. Many of them can also be viewed on one of the ESPN Network channels.

Alternate Player Props Available at ESPN BET

ESPN BET stands as one of the lone sportsbooks in which users can wager on alternate player prop unders for same game parlays.

It’s standard procedure for sportsbooks to let you wager on the upside aspects for a player in a game, such as a wide receiver exceeding 100 yards.

However, on the flip side at ESPN BET, you can also wager on the downside pertaining to player props. For example, betting the under on rushing yards for a dual-threat quarterback.

This balance is advantageous to leveling the playing field and making the market more fair for odds.

Overall, there’s not many options available yet in this regard at the onset of the platform, but this is an excellent feature for users which isn’t readily available at most sportsbooks.

ESPN BET Top Competitors

It’s estimated that FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings currently control about 75% of the legal sports betting market nationwide. PENN is betting that the ESPN name will bring in many more customers.

We expect to see ESPN BET compete with the biggest sportsbooks, and it seems likely that the brand will become a top sportsbook in many states. The ESPN name is well respected, and PENN will be spending an enormous amount of money looking to get their percentage closer to those big two. However, it’s not a slam dunk when you look at the competition.

FanDuel Promo Code

FanDuel is the biggest sports betting company in America. This didn’t happen by accident. The company offers a compelling product and had millions of DFS customers before sports betting was legalized in 2018, giving them a head start in the race to control sportsbook market share.

BetMGM Bonus Code

Although the MGM name is synonymous with gambling, BetMGM has found itself behind FanDuel and DraftKings in the sports betting market. ESPN BET’s entry into the options won’t help that.

bet365 Bonus Code

bet365 is England’s leading bookmaker and one of the biggest sports betting companies in the world. They only have a fraction of the US market, but their size and reach make them a major player.

Caesars Sportsbook Promo Code

Caesars Sportsbook is another one of those brands that every sports bettor knows. Its success as a sportsbook is reflected in its status as a household name. Caesars has done quite well in many of the states in which it operates. Caesars was once the official sportsbook of ESPN, so it will be interesting to see how the ended relationship, combined with the probable rise of ESPN BET, will affect its performance.

The History of ESPN

ESPN has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a fledgling cable network. The Connecticut-based broadcasting giant is now the biggest player in sports television, and the company is hoping that its enormous brand recognition will lead to many customers trying out ESPN BET. Here is a timeline of some of the biggest developments in the history of ESPN.

  • 1979 – ESPN Debuts
  • 1982-1984 – One of the first partnerships with the NBA
  • 1983 – Broadcast the inaugural United States Football League (USFL) season
  • 1984 – Sold to ABC with the Hearst Corporation eventually taking a 20% ownership stake
  • 1985 – ABC sold to Capital Cities Communications
  • 1987- Acquires partial rights to broadcast NFL games
  • 1990- Adds Major League Baseball to its offerings
  • 1996- The Walt Disney Company purchased Capital Cities/ABC
  • 2009- Opens a broadcast facility in the L.A. Live complex
  • 2023- Announced deal to brand Penn’s sportsbooks with ESPN BET

ESPN BET Banking Options

Most of these deposit and withdrawal options should be available on ESPN BET.

Here are the deposit options available for ESPN BET accounts.

  • Debit/credit card
  • Online banking
  • ACH/eCheck
  • PayPal
  • Skrill
  • Venmo
  • Cash at Casino
  • Wire Transfer

Trying to win money is the reason most sports bettors place their wagers. ESPN BET also offers these withdrawal options:

  • Debit Card
  • Paper Check
  • Wire Transfer
  • Skrill
  • Venmo
  • Cash at Casino
  • ACH/eCheck
  • Online banking
  • PayPal

Payout Times Have Fluctuated for Users

On ESPN BET’s opening weekend, our testers and plenty of users dealt with delayed payouts. It took more than two days for our withdrawal to process. While this timespan is in line with many sportsbooks, it’s also considerably prolonged when juxtaposed with where the industry is headed regarding payout times.

Twitter users expressed frustration regarding the unpredictability for payout times, as the process was instantaneous for some, with others dealing with pending transactions for over two days.

Also, particular users vented about the verification process, claiming they had to wait 4-5 days to be confirmed while the customer service team looked over their personal information.

As the initial rush of demand for the platform dies down, look for improvements in these situations. However, the first impression was certainly a mixed bag for ESPN BET.

ESPN BET Promo Code Review Conclusion

There aren’t many sports brands that rival ESPN. ESPN BET is sure to live up to the mammoth pre-launch hype. If any new brand can take on the industry leaders, it’s one connected to the ubiquitous ESPN Brand.

Will being tied to ESPN and offering a great product be enough to increase their share of this evolving sports betting market and close in on FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings? The online sports betting world will be closely watching.
