Boyle averaged 3.57 pitches per plate appearance against the Cardinals in his first start of the season. He seemed to take a little bit of velocity off of his heater in an effort to land it in the zone more consistently. He ended the day with 76.1% first-pitch strikes and 69.3% strikes overall.

On Friday in Minnesota, the temperature is forecast to be near 40 degrees, with the wind blowing straight in around first pitch. These are great pitching conditions, and it's a favorable matchup for Boyle against a relatively weak Twins offense that is traveling to a new city without the benefit of an off day. Boyle is also fighting for a more permanent role at the MLB level, with Ryan Pepiot nearing a return from the injured list.
