Selection Sunday is a month away and there’s a big slate of college basketball games on Saturday, headlined by No. 1 Tennessee facing No. 5 Kentucky in Lexington. The Volunteers opened as 3-point road underdogs on the betting line. Tennessee has had success in the series recently, covering the spread in eight of the last 11 games and going 4-1 ATS the last five meetings in Kentucky.

No. 1 Tennessee Volunteers at No. 5 Kentucky Wildcats, 8:00 p.m. ET

Opening Line: Kentucky -3

Kentucky enters this game off a loss after blowing a halftime lead to LSU Tuesday night. The Tigers won in Lexington 73-71 as 8.5-point underdogs thanks to a controversial tip-in at the buzzer by Kavell Bigby-Williams. The loss ended Kentucky’s 10-game straight up winning streak and 8-0 ATS run.

Speaking of winning streaks, Tennessee hasn’t lost since Nov. 23 when the Volunteers fell to Kansas 87-81 in overtime. It’s the only loss Tennessee has suffered all season. Since then, the Volunteers are 19-0 SU and 11-7-1 ATS. The Tennessee lost as 15-point favorites in their last game against South Carolina when the Gamecocks hit a three-pointer in the final seconds to cover 85-73.

Tennessee isn’t used to being in the underdog role. It’s just the third time the Volunteers will be dogs this season. Tennessee was underdogs earlier in the year to Kansas (+3) and Gonzaga (+3.5). They lost to the Jayhawks but upset the Bulldogs 76-73. Since the Gonzaga game, Tennessee has been favored by at least 11 points in 11 of 15 games.

In his latest Bracketology, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has Tennessee as the top seed in the South and Kentucky the second seed in the Midwest where Virginia is No. 1. A loss on Saturday in Lexington won’t impact Tennessee’s seeding. Barring a late-season meltdown, the Vols are a lock for a No. 1 seed in March.

Duke is the overwhelming favorite to win the NCAA Championship with odds of +175 at the Westgate LV SuperBook. Kentucky actually has better odds to win the title than Tennessee. The Wildcats are tied as the fourth betting favorite at odds of +1000 with Tennessee currently +1200.
