In what we expect to one of many moves in 2019 by the major (and minor) television networks, NBC Sports Radio is diving into the sports wagering arena.

Per a news release before the New Year, the Peacock’s sports radio arm will launch a daily national radio show focused on sports gambling called “The Daily Line,” which is scheduled to debut Jan. 2. The show will broadcast out of the NBC Washington studio and be hosted by longtime local anchor Michael Jenkins, along with Tim Murray, a host for SB Nation Radio and the studio host for Navy football.

Jenkins and Murray both stated they want their show to appeal to casual sports bettors.

“I don’t think anyone expects me to give a deep dive into my algorithm or spread sheets,” Jenkins told the Washington Post. “I’ve been to Vegas like 15 times. I love to gamble, but I’m not a degenerate gambler. We want to have conversations with the average sports fans.”

It’s the third time in the last week NBC Sports has announced a new sports betting venture. As RotoGrinders reported last week, NBC recently registered several domain names connected to sports betting with speculation the network could be looking to open a sportsbook in the future.

Before that, NBC Sports announced the release of a new free-to-play Sports Predictor games app, which will allow fans to play along while they watch their favorite NBC Sports action. With its new radio show, domain names and app, it’s obvious NBC Sports hopes to be a major player in the emerging sports betting market.

The new show will touch on daily sports topics but will focus on their gambling angles, from point spreads to line movements. The show will feature oddsmakers and sharp bettors as guests, and recap betting results.

The Daily Line will air from 3-7 p.m. ET every weekday and will broadcast on the NBC Sports Radio app, as well as a group of radio affiliates around the country.

NBC Sports is just the latest to launch a sports betting show. The Action Network has a sports betting show on ESPN+. The Vegas Sports & Information Network (VSiN) has its own channel on Sirius Radio. And Fox Sports 1 airs a daily sports betting television show called “Lock It In.”

“Lock It In” is the first all sports betting show on a major TV network and NBC seems likeliest to follow next.

Legalized sports betting isn’t even a year old in the United States but media companies are already positioning themselves to take advantage of a new revenue stream. If the past two weeks are any indicator, NBC Sports is exploring any and all entry points into the market.
