Darddog's Attack Plan for College Football DFS: Week 1 (Saturday Slate)

A top-ranked college football DFS player, Micah Bedard (darddog) is here to walk you through the upcoming DraftKings slate. Micah will break down his favorite DFS picks at each position and will also lay out his strategy for how he is attacking the slate overall.

Thursday night’s slate is just one of those that I’m never going to have a ton of success on when a good portion of the chalk hits. Remember the rule I used in GPPs to limit one of John Rhys Plumlee and RJ Harvey? That worked out great, with Harvey catching a 50 yard TD on a screen pass from JRP.

The one bright spot was Kasim Hill, who put up 41 FP at 7% ownership. I just didn’t have the right combination of lineups with him to be relevant in any GPPs. Oh well- you need to have a short memory to be successful long term in DFS.

Let’s get into my plays for the Saturday DK main slate, where only one out of the 14 games have a spread within 10 points.

College Football DFS: Top DraftKings Picks for Week 1 (Saturday Slate)

Quarterback

Core Plays

Joe Milton III
$8,700

Milton to me is one of the biggest question marks heading into 2023. He gets thrown into one of the best offenses a CFB QB could want under HC Josh Heupel. He has a rocket for an arm, but I still don’t think he’s as good of an all-around QB as Hendon Hooker. That being said, he gets a great matchup in Week 1 with a ton of playmakers around him on the outside. You need to make sure to pair him with one or more of his WRs. That shouldn’t be a problem since they are all dirt cheap for their potential roles.

Michael Penix, Jr.
$8,400

Penix had a fantastic season at Washington last year under first-year coach Kalen DeBoer. He threw for over 4,500 yards and had 31 TDs. He basically gets his whole supporting cast back, along with a great transfer portal addition at RB in Dillon Johnson. He’s another guy like Milton that I would make sure I have paired with a WR. He only had two games where he threw for fewer than 300 yards last year, and one of those was a blowout of Colorado. Look for Penix to pick up where he left off last season in Week 1.
