What Is ProphetX and How Does It Work?
ProphetX is a peer-to-peer sports trading platform where you buy and sell contracts based on how you think a game or event will turn out. Instead of betting against a sportsbook with fixed odds, you’re trading directly with other users, which means prices can move up and down depending on what people think will happen.
Each contract is priced between $0 and $1. For example, if a contract is trading at $0.45, that means the market currently values that outcome at 45 cents.
In the app itself, prices are shown in American odds — the -110 you’d recognize from a sportsbook — even though the underlying contract still settles at $1 or $0. A -110 price works out to roughly a 52% contract; -150 is about 60%.
You can buy at that price, set your own price and wait for someone to match it, or just watch and see how things change.
One of the biggest differences here with traditional sports betting platforms, for instance, is that you don’t have to wait until the game ends. If the price moves in your favor, you can sell your position early to another user and lock in a profit (or cut a loss). At the end of the event, winning contracts pay out $1, and losing ones are worth $0.
Also, ProphetX focuses entirely on sports, with markets covering the NFL, NBA, MLB, tennis, and more. With the MLB stretch run underway and NFL Preseason Week 2 running Thursday, August 20 through Sunday, August 23, there are plenty of contracts worth a look.
ProphetX vs Traditional Sportsbooks

ProphetX allows users to cut out the “house” and trade against each other, set odds of their own to attract a sell or to shop around for a price that seems to their liking. Again—the only people setting the odds are other users on the site.
But that’s not the only difference it has with sportsbooks. Compare them quickly with the table below:
| Feature | ProphetX | Traditional Sportsbooks |
|---|---|---|
| Market Structure | Peer-to-peer prediction market | House-operated sportsbook |
| Who Sets Prices? | Market participants | Sportsbook oddsmakers |
| Counterparty | Other traders | The sportsbook |
| Pricing Model | Prices move based on supply and demand | Fixed odds set by the operator |
| Ability to Exit Early | Yes, users can close positions before settlement | Limited to sportsbook cash-out features, if offered |
| Trading Flexibility | Buy and sell positions as market conditions change | Typically locked into a wager after placement |
| Fees | 2% fee on net gains for straight trades; 0% fee on parlay trades | Sportsbook margin (“vig”) built into odds |
| Price Discovery | Market-driven | Operator-driven |
| Regulation | Federally regulated prediction market | State-regulated sportsbook |
| Best For | Users who want to trade event outcomes and react to market movements | Bettors who prefer traditional fixed-odds wagering |
The result is a market that cuts out the middleman — though as our own testing showed, a peer-to-peer price is only better than a sportsbook’s if someone’s actually there to take the other side.
You can also compare social sportsbooks, like Playbracco, with gambling apps!
Available Sports on ProphetX
ProphetX lists contracts on ten sports and leagues — fewer than a typical sportsbook, but the majors are all there:
With ProphetX even supporting some international leagues, the app will likely continue to expand its available sports.
Market Types Available on ProphetX
ProphetX offers eight market types, covering the standard sportsbook menu plus in-play trading:
- Moneyline
- Spreads
- Totals or Over/Under
- Live Trading
- Player Props
- Parlays
- Same-Game Parlays
- Futures
ProphetX’s markets specialize exclusively in sports. If you want to make picks on other markets related to pop culture and politics, check out the Verse Picks referral code.
Is ProphetX Legit?
Yes. ProphetX is regulated federally by the CFTC as a derivatives exchange rather than licensed state by state as a sportsbook, which is why it operates in states without legal sports betting.
ProphetX Available States
ProphetX is available in 49 states and is not currently operating in Nevada:
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Availability can change, but don’t worry, ProphetX confirms whether a user is in an eligible location during registration and before trading. Users must also meet the platform’s age, identity, and location requirements.
ProphetX Mobile App Review
Short version: clean, fast, and narrow — strong pricing engine, fewer markets than the competition.
ProphetX is available on desktop browsers as well as iOS and Android devices. The mobile app makes it easy to check markets, manage positions, and follow live price movements wherever you are.
If you’re coming from a traditional sportsbook, the design may feel a little different. Instead of flashy graphics and endless promotions, ProphetX focuses on a clean layout that puts markets and pricing front and center.
An app update this week noticeably smoothed out navigation — moving between leagues and market types is quicker than it was, and prices are easy to read.
The remaining gap is depth rather than polish: competing prediction market apps carry more markets and surface live volume, so you can see how much activity sits behind a price before you commit to it.
Here’s what our own testing looked like across five contracts.
We funded with a linked bank account, which posted instantly.
On August 19 we took the Cubs to beat the White Sox at 55%, sized at $10. The market was quoted 50% bid, 55% ask — a five-point gap on a mainstream MLB matchup, wider than we expected for a game that size. The Cubs lost and the contract settled at zero.
That spread is the practical argument for ProphetX’s request-your-own-price feature. On a five-point market, taking the ask hands back most of the edge you came in with.
So we tested it. On August 20 we posted our own price on the Texans to beat the Raiders rather than taking what was showing. It matched within 30 minutes and we held the position through settlement. On a market that liquid, setting your own price cost us half an hour and nothing else.
We ran three more contracts on August 20 to see whether the wide spread was an MLB problem or a platform problem. The Over on 49ers–Chargers at -110 hit. The Wings +2.5 against the Fever, also -110, covered. The Nationals +1.5 at -150 did not.
The pattern across all five: pricing is competitive once you’re filled, and the request-your-own-price tool is the difference between a good number and the posted one. Two of our five settled in the money.
📋 What we recorded
Pros of ProphetX
Here’s what we like about ProphetX:
- You can request your own price instead of taking what’s posted
- No account limits on winning traders
- Lower vig than most traditional sportsbooks (2% fee on net gains for straight trades; 0% fee on parlay trades)
- Generous welcome bonus (with promo code
ROTOBONUS ) - Available in 49 states
Cons of ProphetX
ProphetX is a genuinely different way to trade sports, but we have reservations:
- Spreads can be wide — we saw a five-point gap on a Cubs–White Sox moneyline, which makes setting your own price close to necessary
- Fewer markets than rival prediction apps, and no live volume display
- Limited banking options
ProphetX Payment Options
| Method | Deposit | Withdrawal | Minimum Amount | Withdrawal Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Online Banking (Aeropay) | ✅ Yes | ✅ Yes | $10 deposit minimum | Instant to several business days |
| Cryptocurrency (Zerohash) | ✅ Yes | ❌ No | $10 deposit minimum | Varies by blockchain/network |
| Wire Transfer | ✅ Yes | ✅ Yes | $1,000 deposit / $5,000 withdrawal | Up to 72 hours |
| Paper Check | ❌ No | ✅ Yes | Not specified | 7–14 days |
- ProphetX requires all deposits and withdrawals to use financial accounts registered in the same name as the account holder.
- Business accounts and third-party transactions are not permitted.
- Maximum deposit limits vary based on payment method and account history.
- Wire transfers are intended for larger transactions and may require additional verification documents.
In our own test, a $50 withdrawal requested on a Wednesday landed in a linked bank account the next business day — the fast end of the range in the table above.
What ProphetX Used to Be
ProphetX moved from a sweepstakes model to real-money CFTC-regulated trading in June 2026.
If you’ve used ProphetX in the past, you’ll notice that the platform works differently today.
In its earlier version, ProphetX functioned under a sweepstakes-based framework that used virtual currencies and promotional mechanics.
In June 2026 the Commodity Futures Trading Commission approved ProphetX as both a Designated Contract Market and a Derivatives Clearing Organization. The company says that dual registration makes it the first sports-native prediction market to clear its own trades.
ProphetX launched nationwide on June 18, 2026, and users now buy and sell sports event contracts in real U.S. dollars.
| Feature | Earlier Version | Current Version |
|---|---|---|
| Legal Classification | Sweepstakes-style sports exchange | Federally regulated prediction market |
| Regulatory Oversight | Governed by state sweepstakes rules | Overseen by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) |
| Trading Currency | Prophet Cash & Prophet Points | U.S. Dollars |
| Withdrawals | Redeemed as prizes | Withdrawn as cash |
| Product Type | Promotional sports contests | Tradable sports event contracts |
| Clearing & Settlement | Managed internally by the platform | Handled through regulated clearing processes |
| State Availability | Restricted based on sweepstakes laws | Accessible in 49 U.S. states |
| Ongoing Promotions | Sweepstakes entries, contests, referral incentives | Referral bonuses and platform-specific promotions |
| Market Display | Pricing formats differed from traditional exchanges | Interface updated to reflect standard contract trading formats |
ProphetX Customer Service Review
Support runs on email and phone only, both inside an 8AM–8PM ET window. That covers most game times, but an issue that surfaces during a late West Coast settlement waits until morning.
Included on the list of customer service options are:
- FAQ Section
- Email: hello@prophetexchange.com – 8AM to 8PM ET.
- Phone: 570-707-7912 – 8AM to 8PM ET.
The only gap that we found in the ProphetX customer service suite is the lack of 24/7 Chat. It’s nitpicky but something that the company could improve upon.
ProphetX Responsible Trading
Set a trading budget before you start, and treat losses as final — promotional funds can’t be withdrawn directly, and a losing contract settles at zero. Our own test trade lost, which is the ordinary outcome often enough to plan around.
ProphetX offers these responsible controls in your account:
- Track your transactions
- Limit your transactions
- Enroll in self-exclusion
- Close your account
And if you ever need additional help, reach out to the National Council on Problem Gambling at 1-800-GAMBLER.
Final Thoughts on ProphetX
ProphetX is built for people who like having more control over their trades. Instead of just taking whatever price is offered, you can set your own and even sell your position before the event ends if the market moves in your favor.
There’s also a promo for new users (
Prices move fast and spreads vary more than you’d expect — even a nationally televised MLB game carried a five-point gap in our testing, while an NFL total the following night filled at a standard -110.
If your pick is wrong, the contract is worth $0, meaning you lose what you paid for it. Before you trade, look at both the price and how active the market is, especially for smaller leagues or less popular events.

Is ProphetX regulated by the CFTC?
Yes — as both a Designated Contract Market and a Derivatives Clearing Organization since June 2026. The dual registration means ProphetX runs the exchange and clears the trades, rather than routing settlement through a third party.
What is ProphetX?
ProphetX is a peer-to-peer prediction market where users trade sports event contracts with one another. Rather than betting against a sportsbook, traders buy and sell positions in a marketplace where prices are determined by supply and demand. This creates a more dynamic experience than traditional fixed-odds wagering.
Where is ProphetX legal?
Everywhere except Nevada — 49 states in total, listed in full above. Because ProphetX is federally regulated rather than state-licensed, it operates in states with no legal sportsbook, including California and Texas. Eligibility is checked by physical location at registration and before each trade.
Is ProphetX a sportsbook?
ProphetX isn’t a sportsbook. They don’t rely on oddsmakers to set the odds and bettors don’t bet against the house. Whether or not ProphetX launches its own sportsbook platform remains to be seen, but as of now, its peer-to-peer “exchange platform” acts as competition to the traditional sportsbook model.
