Notorious/STLCards' DFS Picks and Strategy for the Ryder Cup
Top-ranked DFS players, Notorious and stlcardinals84, break down their favorite DFS picks at various salary ranges for this week’s Ryder Cup. Who should you be building around? Find out below.
For golf fans, this is one of the best weeks of the year. Well technically, this is one of the best weeks of every other year. The Ryder Cup is back and Team USA will be looking to end a 30-year drought on European soil. The last time the Americans won the Ryder Cup on the other side of the pond was in 1993.
The last Ryder Cup (2021) was held at Whistling Straits where the Americans went on to win in dominating fashion (19-9), leading many to believe this would be a lopsided affair moving forward. However, some poor form from the Americans and some questionable captain’s picks have leveled the playing field. The current odds have Team USA as slight favorites (-110) to win this week, but that number was much bigger six months ago.
We should be in store for a fun week at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy.
2023 Ryder Cup DFS Picks and Bets
How it Works:
- There are 28 matches in total, each worth one point
- To win the Ryder Cup outright, a team must collect 14.5 of the 28 points
- If it results in a 14-14 tie, the Unites States would retain the trophy
Ryder Cup Format:
- Friday AM: 4 four-ball matches (16 of the 24 golfers will compete)
- Friday PM: 4 foursome matches (16 of the 24 golfers will compete)
- Saturday AM: 4 four-ball matches (16 of the 24 golfers will compete)
- Saturday PM: 4 foursome matches (16 of the 24 golfers will compete)
- Sunday: 12 singles matches (all 24 golfers will compete)
It’s important to note that any individual golfer could be involved in up to five matches in the five sessions. The only requirement is that every golfer will play in the Sunday singles. This means that some golfers will play one or two sessions, while others will play all five sessions. The only matchups and pairings that we will know before lock will be for the Friday AM session, which leaves us with a lot of guesswork.
From a DFS standpoint, the goal this week is to maximize the number of matches played from golfers in your player pool. The scoring is similar to the match play event where you get points based on holes won or lost and matches won or lost. There are some pairings that we can expect to stick together, but a bad round or two could lead the captains to switching it up. We also have a captain roster spot on DraftKings (1.5x the salary and 1.5x the fantasy production), which adds another layer of strategy to roster construction.
