Well folks, what we have here is a whole slew of pretty good pitchers, without a single great pitcher. With the exception of one cheaper option, the salaries are all tightly bunched as well, and not really a deciding factor between most of these pitchers. Here’s the big old group with their 2022 numbers:
Freddy Peralta vs Cardinals – 27.1% K, 8.5% BB, 3.58 ERA, 3.57 SIERA
Nestor Cortes at Orioles – 26.5% K, 6.2% BB, 2.44 ERA, 3.48 SIERA
Tyler Mahle vs Astros – 25% K, 8.5% BB, 4.40 ERA, 3.88 SIERA
Jon Gray at Cubs – 25.7% K, 7.5% BB, 3.96 ERA, 3.56 SIERA
Carlos Carrasco vs Marlins – 23.6% K, 6.4% BB, 3.97 ERA, 3.60 SIERA
Jameson Taillon vs Rangers – 20.7% K, 4.4% BB, 3.91 ERA, 3.84 SIERA
Drew Rasmussen vs A’s – 21.4% K, 5.3% BB, 2.84 ERA, 3.74 SIERA
Taijuan Walker vs Reds – 20.3% K, 6.9% BB, 3.49 ERA, 4.05 SIERA
George Kirby at Guardians – 24.5% K, 4.1% BB, 3.39 ERA, 3.32 SIERA
Hunter Brown at Twins
Kutter Crawford at Tigers – 23.1% K, 8.7% BB, 5.47 ERA, 4.11 SIERA
There is a little bit of a sliding scale of strikeout ability, made tough by the fact that the higher strikeout pitchers here are also the guys in the tougher matchups. I’m going to group these guys as best as I can, just be aware that there is basically no real separation and you could change my tiers in basically any way you want, and as usual, I will not yell at you.
