Happy Halloween!
I grew up in Houston, and Roger Clemens lived nearby. The Clemens kids went to school with us, and I remember their gigantic mansion was the only one in the neighborhood behind a gate. Every Halloween, they’d have a security guard outside the gate handing out candy and autographed baseball cards.
This tradition was no secret, so you had to get there early. By like 5 PM, they’d usually be out of the autographed Clemens cards. Fortunately, if you did happen to miss out, you weren’t fully out of luck. Just down the street, there was another house where an old man would sit on the deck and hand out candy and autographed cards. His offerings had a little more variety. “Ah, you want Barry Bonds? Here ya go. Jeff Bagwell? Who needs a Bagwell?” And he’d sign them right there, just for us.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy a safe and fun Halloween with way too much candy and just the right amount of forgery.
Slate Overview
It’s a fairly light night in the NBA on the heels of last night’s NBA Cup extravaganza. Just six games on the board tonight, and, in the least shocking news of all time, DraftKings and FanDuel are handling them differently. The FD slate tips off at 6 PM ET and includes the PHI/CHA game, while DK’s starts at 7 PM ET and excludes it.
There are already a ton of injuries around the league, and we’re less than two weeks in. The Sixers and Rockets will both play for the second time in as many nights. That means Philly likely won’t have Joel Embiid, while we’ll see whether LeBron James suits up. Houston has played the last two games without Alperen Sengun due to a back issue, and they’ll host an Oklahoma City team that’s been absolutely ravaged in the season’s early stages.
I’ll be on Grinders Live today with TJ and Tim. Join us live as we break down tonight’s slate.
