NHL Daily Plays: Sunday, December 7th
Be careful to not miss the start time of some of these GPPs today. There is one early game at 3 PM EST and a few sites are including it. This start time is perfect, as the early NFL games will be at halftime 30 minutes or so before lineups lock for NHL. Don’t miss out on the bigger slate if you can help it.
Goalies
Make sure to check the RotoGrinders Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to game time.
Jimmy Howard – Detroit Red Wings – The Red Wings are playing great hockey right now with a record of 8-2 in their last 10 games. Howard has gotten the win in 5 of his last 6 games and I see this trend continuing tonight. Carolina comes into this game only scoring 2.28 goals per game, which has them ranked 26th in the league. Howard should get plenty of goals in support for the win, and those points are crucial.
Alex Stalock – San Jose Sharks – He is likely to get the start tonight, but nothing is confirmed yet that I am seeing. He comes in at a discount on many sites and Vegas has the Sharks as the biggest favorite of the night. Edmonton’s offense just isn’t there right now and Stalock should be the cheapest option that you can lock in the win.
Centers
Logan Couture – San Jose Sharks – This is the type of team that Couture should thrive against. The Oilers play at a very fast pace and Couture should benefit greatly from this, as he is an extremely good skater. He will have no problem taking advantage of the weak blue line play from Edmonton. Logan is coming into this game with five points in his last four games, and he had a multi point game last night with a +3 rating.
Henrik Sedin – Vancouver Canucks – The price tag on Henrik is a steal at DraftKings, as he’s coming in at $4,100. Henrik is usually more of a cash game play for me, as he does not have the highest upside because he loves to set up his teammates for great scoring chances. Henrik has 25 points in 27 games this season and is often overlooked in daily fantasy for some reason. He is very consistent and this matchup shouldn’t slow him down at all. Ottawa is allowing the second most shots per game in the league, so the scoring chances should certainly be there tonight.
Wing
Pavel Datsyuk – Detroit Red Wings – Datsyuk is really a center, but he is listed at LW on FanDuel. Datsyuk ended his three-game streak of multi-point games last night and will be looking to bounce back today. Datsyuk is playing great right now with his new line mates and has seemed to elevate his game. He is not skating with his long time line mate Zetterberg anymore, which has actually benefited Datsyuk, as the defensive pairings he gets shifted against are a lot weaker.
Andrew Ladd – Winnipeg Jets – Ladd is coming off of a 3-point game Friday night. He has at least three shots on goal in his last three games and has been contributing even when he is not in on the scoring. He will be facing netminder Frederik Andersen, who has allowed 15 goals in his last four games. While it is tough to predict where the scoring comes from on Winnipeg, the combo of Bryan Little and Andrew Ladd is the best bet.
Defense
Erik Karlsson – Ottawa Senators – It is very easy to recommend playing the highest price player at a position, but with all of the mid-priced players mentioned above, you should have enough salary to afford him. He is the most consistent defenseman on the board tonight and you can have a big edge on your opponents if they try to fade him. Ryan Miller has allowed 11 goals in his last three games and was pulled in the second period last night. If Eddie Lack gets the nod because of Miller’s struggles, Karlsson gets a bump in value too.
