NHL Daily Plays: Sunday, November 2nd
With most players only focused on the NFL, and their monster GPPs, people tend to make their NHL lineups at the last minute without proper research. Seven games on the slate today is enough to have an edge over your opponents and I’m going to help you get that edge. Let’s get to it.
Goalies
Make sure to check the RotoGrinders Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to puck-drop
Jimmy Howard (Detroit Red Wings)- Howard has started this season playing great. A .929 save percentage to go along with a 5-1 record is a recipe for a good game today. Throw in the fact that he gets to face Buffalo, who is one of the worst offensive teams in the league, and you have yourself the top option of the day.
Carey Price (Montreal Canadiens)- Carey Price and the Montreal Canadiens are outstanding at home. He is a very large favorite to get the win at -185, which is crucial in daily fantasy. This game should be a low scoring affair with Montreal getting the W. Carey’s salary is much less than Johnathan Quick on some sites today, so I will take the savings.
Centers
Pavel Datsyuk (Detroit Red Wings)- No surprise here – I am going to pick on Buffalo. Datsyuk is a steal at $6,800 on FanDuel tonight. He would be one of my favorite plays regardless of price though. Buffalo got embarrassed last night losing 0-5 and I could see this happening again. Fire up Datsyuk with confidence, especially on FanDuel.
Andrew Shaw (Chicago Blackhawks)- Shaw had a very disappointing night the last two games, but skating with Patrick Sharp and Patrick Kane this won’t last long. Shaw is bound to pick up some assists skating with players that great. He is very cheap on most sites and will allow you to fit the top players in.
Wing
Tyler Toffoli (Los Angeles Kings)- Toffoli continues to rack up the points – six goals and eight assists in only 11 games. This is the only skating line that is clicking for the Kings this season and I am going to continue to ride the lightning. The only concern here is the ice time, and I’m wondering if he can keep up this production in limited minutes. Until he stops scoring, I will play him in these great matchups.
Alexander Ovechkin (Washington Capitals)- Ovechkin is in the longest scoring drought of his NHL career. He has not tallied a goal in a whopping six games. Ovy has taken 13 shots on goal the last two games and is hungry to find the back of the net. The Arizona Coyotes’ goalies have been atrocious this season and I think Ovy comes out with a huge game. There aren’t many players with high salaries in great spots today, so I don’t mind paying up.
Defense
Niklas Kronwall (Detroit Red Wings)- Kronwall is on the ice for nearly 25 minutes a game and is getting all of the powerplay time on the top unit along side Pavel Datsyuk on the point. Datsyuk commands the attention of the defense and loves to create scoring chances for his teammates. With the best matchup of the night, Kronwall comes in as my top defenseman.
Jacob Muzzin (Los Angeles Kings)- Muzzin is logging over 22 minutes a game and is coming in at a great value on some sites. This Kings team should control the game from start to finish and Muzzin should find the scoreboard. He is a defenseman that loves to join the rush anytime he can, which is never a bad thing for fantasy.
