NHL Daily Plays: Sunday, November 9th
I’m loving the late start time today, as it will give us a chance to look for last minute news at halftime of the afternoon NFL games.
It’s only a five-game slate, but there should be some great hockey games to watch regardless, and we should still be able to find good value. Check out my favorite NHL picks for Sunday below.
Goaltender
Make sure to check the RotoGrinders Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to game time.
Henrik Lundqvist – New York Rangers – While Lundqvist hasn’t been great his last five games, the team has still managed to win three times. He had a great performance in an overtime shutout loss eight days ago. Lundqvist should be well rested and gets a great matchup at home against an Edmonton team that will without their top scorer.
Craig Anderson – Ottawa Senators – Anderson always provides huge upside for your GPP teams. Ottawa loves to play at an extremely fast pace, which leads to plenty of shots for both teams. Ottawa is playing great early on this season, and when Anderson gets the win his fantasy production is often unmatched.
Center
Derrick Brassard – New York Rangers – Brassard comes in at quite the discount on some sites and he is producing well above the salary. With seven points in the last five games (before Saturday night), and with him centering a line with Rick Nash and Martin St. Louis, I expect this production to continue.
Henrik Zetterberg – Detroit Red Wings – With Pavel Datsyuk questionable to play, Zetterberg will be asked to carry even more of the offensive load. This will also increase the chances that Zetterberg will be on the ice during an empty net situation at the end of a game, as Datsyuk is the team’s best defensive center.
Wing
Phil Kessel – Toronto Maple Leafs – Kessel is coming into this game on a six-game point streak and has had four multi-point efforts during that span. It doesn’t get much hotter than that. The wide open, fast-paced games that Ottawa likes to play should play right into this sniper’s hands as well. I expect a big game from Kessel.
Kris Versteeg – Chicago Blackhawks – Anytime a player is this cheap and has an opportunity to skate with Johnathan Toews and Patrick Kane, I am going to love the play. Versteeg looks to be that man tonight, and for the price I can’t pass on him. Chicago’s offense has not been great, but we all know the talent is there and that the Blackhawks are due to break out one of these games.
Defense
Cody Franson – Toronto Maple Leafs – Franson has points in his last three contests and the price is not catching up fast enough. He is now getting time with the team’s top powerplay unit as well, which serves us well in a game that should see plenty of penalties. Franson is never afraid to drop the glove, and the threat of five-minute fighting penalty only boosts his value and makes him even safer for your cash games.
Dan Girardi – New York Rangers – With the injury to Ryan McDonaugh, Giradi benefits greatly by getting the powerplay minutes with the first unit. He is extremely cheap around the industry and one of my favorite plays tonight given his price. If I am stacking one team, it is going to be the Rangers, and Girardi will be a staple.
