PGA DFS Tournament Breakdown: Butterfield Bermuda Championship

Long-time grinder, stlcardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS tournament picks in various price ranges on DraftKings & FanDuel for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!
The PGA TOUR fall season continues this week, and we will have quite a few consecutive events before the winter break arrives. The PGA TOUR once again leaves the United States this week for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. This will be the 8th edition of this event, and here are the winners from the first 7: Brendon Todd, Brian Gay, Lucas Herbert, Seamus Power, Camilo Villegas, Rafael Campos, and Adam Schenk last year. I mean no offense to any of them, but that is not exactly a group of elite golfers. This is another weak-field event, and we can definitely expect some unpredictability.
Port Royal Golf Course will be the host venue, as it has been for every edition of this tournament. This is a very short par 71, as it does not even touch 7,000 yards from the tips. Some golfers have compared it to Harbour Town without all the trees, meaning we have narrow landing areas, which will often take the driver out of their hands off the tee. Approach play and ball striking will be the name of the game. In ideal weather conditions, there are usually plenty of birdies available here, as we saw the winning score get up to -24 a few years ago. However, the main defense that Port Royal has is the wind, and current forecasts are projecting significant wind for virtually every round of this tournament.
Given the windy conditions, Bogey Avoidance will take on more importance for me this week. Otherwise, the primary ball-striking/approach metrics are always important along with current form and course history. Let’s dig in and check out some of my favorite GPP options for the week!
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Tournament Breakdown for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship
Ben James
DraftKings: $10,900
FanDuel: $12,600
This is one of the worst overall field strengths we have ever seen in a PGA TOUR event featuring over 100 golfers. Even though he only has a half season under his belt at the PGA TOUR level, Ben James is clearly sitting as the top of the class. Part of that is a testament to the weak field, but it’s also because it goes to show just how well James has been playing. He has finished 5th or better in each of his last 3 starts, including a pair during the fall swing already. He has 6 total top-25 finishes in 10 career PGA TOUR starts. In his 38-round sample size, he ranks inside the top 25 of this field in every single strokes gained metric, including 1st in tee-to-green play and 3rd in ball striking. His DFS salary doesn’t break the bank, and he is absolutely the best starting point for any game format.
