Questions & Answers: Sunday, April 7th

Is your lineup Premium Approved? In this space, CheeseIsGood, STLCardinals84, or fathalpert will break down the slate from top-to-bottom like no one else in the industry can – exploring the matchups from every angle, steering you toward the best plays on the day, and helping you become a better and more complete DFS player as you continually expose yourself to the “process” and the “why,” rather than just looking at the “what.” Have a boat? We’ll teach you how to fish.

Sunday, April 7th

Hello Grinders. With Cheese and Cards breaking down the MLB slate Monday through Saturday, I have the privilege of covering Sunday. My approach to any MLB slate is to ask myself questions, and then I dig into them to find the answers. Ultimately, the goal is the same as to what you’d expect from a slate breakdown from Cheese or Cards when they do their slate breakdowns, which is to identity the top spots to target with a mix of game theory also involved for those of you playing tournaments. I hope you find this format helpful, and I’m open to feedback if you want to leave a comment below or shoot me a DM on RotoGrinders. Let’s dive in!

Question 1 – What Do We Do With Pitching?

We have a clear ace at the top in Max Scherzer, and it’s hard to ignore him. Scherzer costs $11,900 on both DraftKings and FanDuel, which means his price remains unchanged on DraftKings since his last start but he sees a slight $200 uptick from his $11,700 salary on FanDuel. The numbers for Scherzer through two starts have been elite – 41.2% K%, 26.9% soft contact and a SwStr% of 16.3%. These numbers are likely unsustainable, but they also aren’t fluky with Scherzer. Scherzer dominated this Mets team on opening day for 12 Ks over 7.2 innings (34.3 DK points / 57 FD points). The Mets are implied for a slate-low three runs as of this writing, and I think this is a spot where you don’t get cute and bite the bullet on Scherzer as your SP1 in cash games across all sites.
