RotoGrinders Partners With Sports Card Investor!

Hello, Grinders! We are extremely excited to announce a partnership between RotoGrinders and Sports Card Investor! It’s been a while in the making. Moving forward, “Market Movers” will be the exclusive data tool for any-and-all Sports Cards related content on RotoGrinders!

While RotoGrinders will continue to be the leading community and authority on DFS, and now Sports Betting, our team has taken a keen eye to the exploding sports card industry. Great minds are getting heavily involved, including prominent A-List entrepreneurs such as Gary Vaynerchuk, who has reportedly invested millions in the industry. We believe it’s an industry the RotoGrinders member-base will be highly interested in, but we just weren’t sure the best way to enter the market.

That was, until we spoke with Geoff Wilson. Geoff is a successful serial entrepreneur and the owner of Sports Card Investor. After watching SCI’s YouTube content, a few meetings, and lots of ebay purchases, we fell back in love with sports cards. And we think many of you will too. Like some of you currently reading this, we also wondered: “didn’t the industry die off in the 90s?”. The answer is ‘yes’, however it is back, and bigger than ever.

Cards are now made in a higher quality than ever. Modern sports cards now include things like jersey patches within the cards, autographs on the cards, and are serial numbered, so in some cases only 5 copies of a single card type exist in the world.

Additionally, we were blown away to see the price some cards are going for…such as these: Panini National Treasures eBay Cards

If that wasn’t enough, we were also drawn to how much certain cards have appreciated over the past 12 months. For example:

If you’re interested in the industry, and want to understand further on WHY the industry is back, we recommend start by watching SCI’s Modern Sports Card Investing YouTube intro video here as a starting point:

Why We Chose To Partner With Sports Card Investor

Geoff Wilson and RotoGrinders Co-Founder Cameron MacMillan go way back, connecting via their time at the University of Florida. Geoff is an uber-successful serial entrepreneur, who also owns & operates ThreeFiveTwo.com. While in college, Cameron was actually an intern for Geoff at ThreeFiveTwo, and also for one of Geoff’s other startups: CampPete.com: an online virtual game that provided football lessons to young students of the game, partnered with none other than Pete Carroll. And now, Geoff has most recently applied his entrepreneurial expertise to the Sports Card Investing industry, and the initial results are incredible. – In just around 7 months since launching, Geoff has grown his YouTube following to nearly 20,000 subscribers, and he recently just hit 1,000 paying members on his site. Incredible progress for just under a year.

RotoGrinders is confident a large portion of our audience will be interested in the booming Sports Card industry, if they weren’t already, but we weren’t quite sure how to enter the market. We chose to work with Sports Card Investor partly because Geoff’s background as a successful serial entrepreneur brings the highest level of business acumen, but also because Geoff’s background in technology, as allowed them to develop the best premium product offering in the industry, highlighted by Market Movers.

Market Movers is THE tool for data research in the Sports Card industry, and it reminds RotoGrinders of what the LineupHQ tool did for daly fantasy sports.

Geoff understands how important it is to do your due diligence before making a major investment whether it be in Facebook or a Giannis Antetokounmpo rookie card. His Market Movers tool (sign up today with promo code GRINDERS for 20% off your first month subscription) allows you to research the hottest cards in the market with his regularly-updated list of cards and players which have had the greatest recent price moves. This list can help you easily spot hidden gems and the price points to target on eBay or another selling platform. A tool like this is invaluable in helping to ensure you don’t overspend and helps you keep overzealous sellers in check when you counter them with fair-market offers. Market Movers also enables you to create charts to visualize and compare individual players and cards to get an idea of how fast their prices are moving, and detect price deviations which may represent a great buying opportunity. For instance check out the charts below on a couple PSA10-Graded Panini Prizm rookie cards for Giannis and Luka Doncic which have dipped recently and have been slower to recover relative to other hot cards. This may represent a good opportunity to invest in these particular cards:

How DFS and Sports Card Investing Relate

If you are a successful DFS player then you are likely somebody who recognizes value in players which the rest of the field is overlooking. There’s a good likelihood that your best weeks came when you trusted your gut and plugged in a player (or stack of players) which nobody was talking about. Well that kind of thinking is exactly what could help you find success with Sports Card Investing! If you can spot the right players to buy at the right time you could find yourself with a super-valuable card in a few years. Check out the prices on some of these current eBay auctions for example:

Much like DFS, or the stock market for that matter, thinking outside the box can be a huge asset when it comes to investing in sports cards. If you are able to recognize a player whose price has been inexplicably hammered relative to the market, or an overall downward trend in the market as a whole due to macro factors like the current COVID-19 situation, then you might recognize a great time to buy assets while everyone else is selling.

Trends might be a difficult thing to recognize if you’re lacking the right tools. It’s difficult to find patterns by checking out eBay, for instance, and scanning for recent sales. Well there is some good news. Sports Card Investor has created a tool to help you easily track the recent sales of individual players and cards to see how they have been performing over a selected period of time. Market Movers is a tool developed by SportsCardInvestor’s founder Geoff Wilson, a tech company investor who is an avid investor in sports cards.

How To Get Started

It’s not an industry you want to jump into without a little education and research. There’s a lot of knowledge to be learned before making heavy investments. But if you’re as excited as we are to get started, here’s the course of action we’d recommend to get up to speed as quickly as possible:

1) Watch SCI’s 101 Intro Videos Above

2) Check out our RotoGrinders Intro To Sports Cards Investing video series where we explore the following topics:

-Overview of the Market Movers Tool
-Finding Value In The Sports Card Market
-Approaching Sports Card Investing With A DFS Mind Set

3) Get some experience buying cheaper cards on eBay. For example pick out some players that you think might break out in the next playing season that are being overlooked and try to target some of their higher-end cards which may be cheap relative to other players. For example it’s April 2020, the week before the NFL draft, and I am targeting players like Courtland Sutton who I think has some great potential to have a breakout season and you can still get his Panini National Treasures cards for what I believe is a relatively inexpensive price under $200 for an autographed NT rookie card.

4) Subscribe to SCI and Use Market Movers when you’re ready to invest

5) Read all the RG content coming:
