Sports Card Investing Targets - NBA Players To Target July, 27 2020
NBA is a few days away and I’ve got a couple under-the-radar Sports Card Investments to target. This week I’m going to compare NBA players across brands. You can sign up for your own Market Movers Subscription to access the data on your own and by using the promo code GRINDERS you will get 20% off your first payment on any subscription. You will want to sign up for Market Movers specifically in order to access the great tools and data, and if you sign up for the annual Market Movers subscription, you will save you 20% on the entire year instead of just the first month. I’ll be adding additional targets at the end of the article from previous articles so you can see if you can still find the cards within the target range.
We will generally target Panini brands for football and basketball as they own exclusive NFL and NBA rights for sports cards. Just like DFS, be sure to manage your bankroll and don’t spend more than what your budget allows. Make sure you pay attention to the grading when looking at targets. Grading makes a huge difference in price, so price targets will be based on grading. An ungraded card is referred to as “Raw”. When targeting a Raw card, try to find one with the best centering, corners and edges (and surface if you can tell) as that is a card that might be worth sending in for grading. We’ll use SportsCardInvestor’s Market Movers data to evaluate current-market price targets based on what people have been paying most recently. Go above/below that market rate based on your convictions and confidence levels by player.

Tyler Herro – Tyler Herro looked good in the Heat’s most recent scrimmage. He dropped 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo were sitting out so Herro took on more of the offensive load than normal but I still expect some big time minutes from Herro in the playoffs. I would not be surprised to see Herro playing in some Heat small ball lineups. He’s not just a spot up shooter like Korver on the Bucks. Herro has handle, he can create his own shot, he can get to the rim and finish. Herro has already shown the ability to hit big time NBA shots in his rookie year. If he does some of the NBA in the playoffs then it will only magnify the eyes on him and increase his card value. The card chart for Herro is very peculiar. His PSA 9 optic holo has actually been decreasing to the same level as his raw optic holo. This is not usually the case as the normal charts for PSA 10’s and PSA 9’s tend to flow in the same direction. PSA 9’s are also more valuable than RAW cards in most cases. RAW cards seem to sell at PSA 8 or PSA 7 values. Optic is one of my personal favorites sets for it clean and crisp look so I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up some Tyler Herro PSA 9’s at his current prices.

Donte DiVincenzo. – I’ve written up Donte DiVincenzo before in my 2018 NBA Draft Class article. He was a buy then and he’s a buy now. He has started at point guard in both of the Bucks scrimmages while Eric Bledsoe works himself back. The first game was a shake the rust off type game for everyone but game 2 was a bit better. DiVincenzo played 22 minutes and scored 13 points with 3 steals. I expect the Bucks to move him to the starting shooting guard spot once Bledsoe is back in the lineup. This should allow DiVincenzo to play to more of his strengths as an athletic defender on the wing that can drive and knock down threes. In looking at his card chart we can see that over the last 90 days, his optic holo is lagging way behind the prizm silver. The prizm silver has increased by 97% while the holo has only seen a price jump of 5%. The prizm silver will always outsell the optic holo but a 92% gap is not the standard so the optic holos are a good value in my eyes. The Bucks are going to make a deep run in the playoffs and DiVincenzo will surely make some big plays for them along the way.
