Tennis DFS Tournament Picks, Best Bets, and Pick ‘Em Plays for Wimbledon

DFS Play #1 – Carlos Alcaraz: $11,200

Prior to a straight sets let down to Jack Draper at Queen’s Club, Alcaraz hadn’t lost a match on grass since Wimbledon in 2022. He’s a massive favorite for very good reason, and Aleksandar Vukic is not the picture of an opponent who brings major upset potential. In fact, he is more the picture of somebody who could get a straight sets loss jammed down his gullet. He has had a decent season on grass this year, but he still struggles in the return game. Alcaraz is easily a top 5 player in the world returning serve (if he’s not the best), and this is a major issue for Vukic given he relies on his serve. I don’t want to over-explain playing the #2 player in the world vs. the 69th ranked player as a -4000 favorite, so suffice it to say this is an excellent choice for both floor and ceiling provided you can locate the savings necessary to afford him elsewhere.

DFS Play #2 and Betting Play #1 – Lloyd Harris: $6,800

Ben Shelton was the heel of Monday’s slate, as their suspended match delayed payouts and further left all chalk eaters in suspense. He was trailing in the match 2 sets to 1, and things looked bad. He was able to come back and win Tuesday but not without struggle. Had they finished in one day, he may well have lost.

This has been a trend for Shelton, as he was ousted in Mallorca in the QF by the current 201st ranked player Paul Jubb. He was also thwarted in round 1 at both Queen’s Club and Stuttgart. Grass SZN has not gone well for him.

Next, he’ll face Lloyd Harris in the next installment of “qualifiers give Ben Shelton hell.” Harris has been dominating challenger events recently with 3 titles including one on grass. In 2023, he made the semi-finals at Mallorca on grass. Shelton has been horrendous in the return game on grass in the last year, and Harris has been extremely effective generating service points. If Shelton can’t break Harris, it’s going to be at minimum a long match and at maximum yet another upset at the hands of a theoretically worse opponent. Give me the underdog here.

Also Betting: Lloyd Harris +110 (DraftKings)

Pick ‘Em Play – Coco Gauff More Than 3.5 Aces

GauffAces7324

Gauff isn’t the absolute best at generating aces overall, but she’s a lot closer to it on grass. At a rate of 9.7%, she ranks 4th in the last 52 weeks on the surface. This a severe mismatch between the world rank #2 player and world rank #142, and the oddsmakers have rated that way at -2000 for Gauff. Anca Todoni has just a 28.6% return games won rate (low for a WTA player) in 2024, and almost none of her opponents are anywhere near as good as Coco Gauff on the serve. This could be a pretty easy match for the American, and a strong chance for her to hit the over 3.5.
