Anderson Varejao Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Isaiah Hartenstein (concussion) available to play Wednesday; Anderson Varejao available to make season debut
The Cavs will be getting two additional frontcourt players available as they prepare to play the Portland Trail Blazers. Hartenstein was upgraded from probable with a concussion to available, and should return to his usual position of backup center, helping to spell Jarrett Allen. Varejao was signed to a contract for the rest of the year, but it's likely that this was just a tribute signing, and he shouldn't be projected to see minutes unless coach Bickerstaff mentions he'll be available in his pre-game media session. Neither player is DFS viable, but this may reduce the ceiling of Allen and Kevin Love in the frontcourt.
Status update: Anderson Varejao won't play for Cavaliers Tuesday
Varejao was signed to a contract with the team, but won't dress tonight as the Cavs play the Phoenix Suns. Varejao likely signed with the team just to retire with them, but if he is to get minutes, it won't be today.
Anderson Varejao waived; allowing the Warriors to sign Briante Weber
Anderson Varejao was waived by the Warriors and it opened up a roster spot for them to sign Briante Weber. This likely means that Shaun Livingston's back injury is much more serious than originally stated. Weber will be signed to a 10-day contract and will likely see more time than Ian Clark or Patrick McCaw. With the Warriors playing in Sacramento tomorrow, we might get an early taste of Weber. He's likely not a viable DFS option but we should have some more information tomorrow after shootaround regarding the status of Livingston.
Andrew Bogut (rest) ruled out on Saturday
Bogut will not be playing in the first leg of a back-to-back against the Grizzlies. The Warriors play the Spurs again tomorrow so expect him to be in the starting lineup then. Festus Ezeli replaced Bogut the last time he was out but did not make much of an impact. The Warriors will rotate Ezeli, Anderson Varejao, and Mo Speights at center tonight. None of them are particularly good options and are GPP dart throws at best. No other Warriors are expected to rest but none will play 35+ minutes, no matter the score of the game.
Andrew Bogut (ribs) will play on Tuesday; Andre Iguodala (ankle) is probable
Bogut will return to the starting lineup against the Timberwolves on Tuesday. Bogut will be on a minutes restriction meaning he is not a viable DFS option. With Bogut returning, Festus Ezelil, Anderson Varejao, and Mo Speights also become irrelevant in DFS. Andre Iguodala is also expected to return but he will also be on a minutes restriction. Iguodala is not a viable option until the Warriors say he will play his full allotment of minutes.
Andrew Bogout (ribs) and Andre Iguodala (ankle) uncertain for Tuesday
Bogut and Iguodala were both able to practice Monday but are uncertain for Tuesday's game. With the Warriors hosting the Timberwolves, this could be a prime spot for Bogut and Iguodala to rest again. Festus Ezeli started in Bogut's place on Sunday, scoring 5.3 fpts in 9 minutes. Mo Speights played 13 minutes and Anderson Varejao only saw 7 minutes on the court. All three players are low-end fantasy options but could see some extra minutes with the Wolves playing two legit big men. Speights has the most upside but relies heavily on scoring for his fantasy output.
Festus Ezeli (knee) starting for Andrew Bogut on Sunday
Ezeli will join the starting lineup after missing 31 games recovering from knee surgery. Ezeli was not given any minutes restrictions but it would be tough to picture him playing more than 15-18 minutes. Anderson Varejao and Mo Speights will also see more minutes with Bogut out of the lineup. All three players are tournament options only with Speights having the highest upside.
Andrew Bogut (rib) questionable for Sunday
Bogut was injured setting a screen against the Celtics on Friday. He is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Blazers. Anderson Varejao and Mo Speights are expected to split the backup center minutes if Bogut is ruled out. Varejao replaced Bogut when he was injured but only played 10 total minutes. Speights also only played 11 minutesin that game with the Warriors deploying their small ball lineup.
Anderson Varajeo to make Warriors debut tonight
He won't be fantasy relevant initially but it'll be interesting to see how Steve Kerr uses him in the rotation. He could become a viable option down the road if he gets some playing time.
Anderson Varejao expected to make Warriors debut on Wednesday
Anderson Varejao was on the active roster on Monday but did not play for the Warriors. He is expected to make his debut on Wednesday against the Heat. Varejao is an extremely risky option for Wednesday but his salary should be near minimum, making him an option to consider. Even if Varejao plays, he will likely not see over 12-15 minutes.
