Cam Newton Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

CAR QB Cam Newton will start Sunday and have a major role but QB Sam Darnold will also play

Cam Newton will start Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and have a major role but Sam Darnold will also play according to HC Mat Rhule. Coach Rhule will elect to go with a two QB system once again on Sunday limiting the upside of both quarterbacks. Coach Rhule didn't go into much depth when discussing each quarterback's role so its impossible to know exactly how the snaps will be split but one would figure Newton would see much of the goal line work and Darnold would play more if the Panthers were down by multiple scores. It was probably best to stay away from the Carolina offense regardless as they draw a tough matchup against the Buccaneers defense.

CAR QB Cam Newton will start Sunday according to HC Matt Rhule, QB P.J. Walker could play too

As expected, Cam Newton will start Sunday against the Washington Football Team according to HC Matt Rhule, P.J. Walker could play too because Newton hasn't learned the full offense yet. Newton was effective this past weekend during limited snaps throwing for a touchdown as well as rushing for one which exemplifies the type of dual threat upside Newton should offer going forward. Newton can be considered this weekend for tournaments, though there are some unknowns regarding how much of the offense Cam is comfortable with after only being with the team for a couple of weeks and how many snaps P.J. Walker will take away from him.

CAR QB Cam Newton "trending" towards starting this Sunday

Cam Newton is "trending" towards starting this Sunday according to HC Matt Rhule. As expected, it seems as though Newton will take over the starting job for the Panthers and it will be his to lose going forward. Newton was effective this past weekend during limited snaps throwing for a touchdown as well as rushing for one which exemplifies the type of dual threat upside Newton should offer going forward. Newton can be considered this weekend for tournaments, though there are some unknowns regarding how much of the offense Cam is comfortable with after only being with the team for a couple of weeks.

Cam Newton 2021 Fantasy Outlook

Per RotoGrinders NFL player projections, Cam Newton is expected to be the fantasy QB32. He's being drafted on Underdog Fantasy as QB31 at pick 219, compared to his RotoGrinders ranking of 208 as of July. We currently expect 1924 passing yards (Rank 33) and 12 passing touchdowns (Rank 32) during the 17 week fantasy season. We also expect 218 yards rushing (Rank 12) with a 11% share of team rush attempts.

He's only projected for half the season right now, with Mac Jones nipping at his heels for playing time. There is no guarantee that Newton even starts the season at QB, let alone finishes it. That said, there is also a universe where a former MVP rises his level of play and turns back the clock to a more glorious time for his fantasy value. The weaponry is rather weak in the WR group, and there aren't many who expect New England to be an uptempo, pass heavy team. If Cam is going to have a big season, it will have a lot to do with his aging legs. They rushed for a very nice 592 yards last season. If you roll dice late in a draft this year, then you're basically asking him to run that back in addition to playing better in the pass game. That's a noble gamble, but not one I'm currently excited about.

Rapoport: Phillip Lindsay, Jerry Jeudy, Tua Tagovailoa and Cam Newton all expected to play

Ian Rapoport reported early Sunday morning that Phillip Lindsay, Jerry Jeudy, Tua Tagovailoa and Cam Newton are all expected to play. It is worth confirming that each player is still in once their team releases inactives, but they all are likely to play barring some type of set back.

N'Keal Harry not practicing Saturday, appears unlikely to play Monday

N'Keal Harry missed his third straight practice this week, and he looks unlikely to be able to play Monday night. He is dealing with a concussion that also kept him out last week. An extended absence related to any head injury is certainly concerning, and his timetable for returning is not clear. Jakobi Meyers and Damiere Byrd should remain the top WR options in this offense for Week 9.

Julian Edelman placed on IR, out at least 3 weeks

Julian Edelman has been placed on IR, meaning he is out for at least three weeks. He had a knee procedure done earlier this week, and it was already known he would miss some time. The Patriots are also without N'Keal Harry Week 8, leaving Cam Newton with few weapons offensively.

Cam Newton officially activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list

The Patriots officially announced that they've activated Newton from the Reserve/COVID-19 list, and he'll be ready to play in Sunday's Week 6 matchup against the Denver Broncos after missing one game with the virus. Newton is expected to practice fully when he rejoins the team on Thursday, so barring some unforeseen setback, there should be no concern about his availability for the weekend's upcoming contest. His likely return to the field will obviously relegate Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer back to their second and third-string quarterback duties following their combined lackluster performance in the Week 4 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs well over a week ago.

Brian Hoyer expected to start for Patriots vs Chiefs

Brian Hoyer is expected to be the Patriots starting QB against the Chiefs, assuming they are able to play this week. With Cam Newton ruled out due to COVID-19, there was some speculation that Jarrett Stidham could get a chance. Instead, the Patriots are likely going with the expected choice, Brian Hoyer, who had been the other active QB behind Newton this season.

Cam Newton added to COVID-19/reserve list, ruled out Week 4

This is massive news, as the Patriots' starting QB Cam Newton has tested positive for COVID-19. The Patriots are currently saying no other player has tested positive, but it is difficult to imagine this truly staying isolated. The Titans have had a slow trickle of positive tests each day since Tuesday, and people can test negative initially before eventually testing positive. If the Patriots-Chiefs game is still able to happen, either Brian Hoyer or Jarrett Stidham will step into the starting role. The run game would likely be heavily featured for the Patriots.

This is definitely a situation to closely monitor between now and kickoff Sunday. There is a realistic chance this game is postponed to later in the season.
