Jamaal Charles Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Jaguars release RB Jamaal Charles

The Jaguars have released RB Jamaal Charles in correspondence with their trading for Carlos Hyde. It appears Hyde and T.J. Yeldon will lead the Jaguars backfield until Leonard Fournette is able to return from his hamstring injury.

Jaguars sign RB Jamaal Charles

The Jaguars have signed RB Jamaal Charles to a one-year deal in the wake of losing Corey Grant for the year and Leonard Fournette's consistent health issues. Charles had allegedly been waiting for an opportunity to sign with a contender, and Jacksonville fit the bill. It is unclear what his role will be from the get-go, but expect him to serve as a change of pace back with TJ Yeldon still handling the bulk of the rushing work for now.

Devontae Booker (wrist) "probably won't play" Week 2

He returned to practice Wednesday after rehabbing a broken wrist for several weeks but it doesn't look like he'll suit up on Sunday. Booker is the third running back in Denver behind C.J. Anderson and Jamaal Charles, so he won't have a huge role when he returns to game action. It appears that it will take an injury or poor performance from those other backs for Booker to see a significant workload this season. Anderson out-touched Charles 21 to 10 in their first game but Charles received four of his touches inside the red zone, one shy of Anderson's five. Although it looks like Anderson has the edge as their workhorse, Charles could siphon off some touchdowns.

Jamaal Charles held out of practice Thursday

Denver is expected to be extremely careful with Charles this season due to his history of knee injuries. It appears this was simply a rest day and he'll be ready to suit up Monday night. He's going to back up C.J. Anderson but the Broncos appear open to rolling with the hot hand. It'll be tough to trust this backfield in fantasy at the beginning of the season as it may be tough to project market share out of the gates, especially with both of these guys coming off knee injuries. Devontae Booker (wrist) isn't going to play in the season opener, which will be helpful for Anderson's and Charles' workloads. Our projections model gives the edge to Anderson and his salary is low enough on DraftKings to consider him for GPPs - he's our RB3 in terms of points-per-dollar - but he doesn't appear to have a very strong outlook in what could amount to timeshare. Charles turned six touches into 42 yards in the preseason and he could carve out a large role for himself at Anderson's expense.

Jamaal Charles placed on IR

Charles suffered a setback to his knee injury a couple of weeks ago and it seems like it isn't getting better. Kansas City decided to place him on the IR. Spencer Ware is currently in the concussion protocol. If he can't play this weekend, Charcandrick West would get the start. Last season, West scored a touchdown in all four games he had at least 19 touches. He also had at least 122 all-purpose yards in three of those contests (he had 85 in one of them). Kansas City takes on Jacksonville in Week 9 and they're 9-point favorites; game flow should be in West's favor.

Jamaal Charles officially OUT this week

It was doubtful that Charles would play this week after experiencing issues with his recently surgically repaired knee and the Chiefs have now confirmed that to be the case. Spencer Ware is an elite option at the RB position facing the Colts who are dead last in RB Rush and Pass DVOA.

Jamaal Charles has another limited practice Thursday

Charles (knee) was limited yesterday as well. He only got in for two plays last week against the Saints after suffering a setback in his recovery from knee surgery. Kansas City has been very careful with him all season, so there's a good chance they keep him out of their Week 8 game with the Colts. If he plays, he'll be limited. Spencer Ware is an awesome running back option against the terrible Indianapolis run defense. The Chiefs will likely remain relatively run-heavy and Ware can be rostered at a discounted price across the industry.

Jamaal Charles has limited practice Wednesday

Charles suffered a setback last week, which limited him to one carry against the Saints in Week 7. Kansas City has been very cautious with Charles this season, so he'll be limited at best this weekend against the Colts. Indianapolis has one of the worst run defenses in the league, and they've allowed a 100-yard rusher for three straight weeks. It's a great matchup for Spencer Ware as the Chiefs will remain relatively run-heavy. The game currently has the second-highest total of the week at 50 points, which is great for Ware's touchdown potential.

Jamaal Charles officially active vs. Saints

Chiefs' RB Jamaal Charles is officially active versus the Saints. Charles had been doubtful earlier in the week. While this news may move some DFS players off Spencer Ware, it really shouldn't. Charles only played 15 snaps last week. It would be a shock to see him play even that many this week. Ware played 40 snaps last week. He's still playable in cash games against a Saints defense that has already given up 12 touchdowns to RBs this season.

Snaps last week were Ware 40, Charles 15, West 8. Touches were Ware 26, Charles 11, West 3.

Chiefs "optimistic" Jamaal Charles can handle a limited workload Sunday

Charles experienced swelling in his knee this week and the Chiefs want to be cautious with his health. If he plays, it will be on a limited basis, making Spencer Ware one of the best running backs available. He has a dream matchup with the Saints defense, who have allowed the most rushing touchdowns in the NFL (11). The Chiefs successfully ran the ball against the Raiders last week, expect them to take a similar approach in Week 7. Ware should have a high volume of touches and he should be effective with his opportunities.
