Florida defenseman riding four game point streak
The Panthers have dropped three consecutive games, but Aaron Ekblad has picked up a point in each of his last four contests. During this stretch, Ekblad has 11 shots on goal and a matchup with the leaky Oilers' defense is exploitable. On a slate where Brent Burns and Erik Karlsson are in a tough matchup on the road in Vegas, finding defensemen with upside at a reasonable price can be hard to find, but Ekblad fits the bill. He is a worthy target in tournaments either as a solo play or in Florida builds.
A breakout performance is inevitable for young blue-liner
With just 12 points through the first 34 games this season, it's undeniably been a slow start for 21-year-old Aaron Ekblad. With that said, the slow start and his recent slump have dropped his price-tag to a point where he's impossible to ignore in all game formats. Looking to jump-start his phenom blue-liner, Bob Boughner has essentially shifted Ekblad into the right-winger on the Panther's top power-play unit and it's becoming very clear that points will soon follow. Ekblad unloaded eight shots on goal in last night's game against Minnesota and tonight draws a favorable matchup against an Ottawa team that owns a subpar 77.9% penalty kill.
