Chiefs sign place Akeem Hunt on IR

The morning news of C.J. Spiller signing with the team makes more sense now, as the Chiefs announced today that backup running back Akeem Hunt suffered a season-ending ankle injury on Sunday.

Chiefs sign C.J. Spiller

The Chiefs signed veteran running back C.J. Spiller as insurance policy ahead of a wild card matchup vs the Titans this weekend. With both Charcandrick West ( Illness) and Akeem Hunt ( Ankle) both on the injury report, the team signed Spiller to add depth in case of an emergency. Kareem Hunt will continue to work as the Chiefs' featured back for their Wild Card matchup against the Titans

Travis Kelce (rest) and several Chiefs defensive starters inactive Sunday; Akeem Hunt (shoulder) active

Kelce will be inactive and won't suit up for today's game against the Denver Broncos due to rest purposes, and he'll join Tyreek Hill, Alex Smith, and several key defensive starters on the bench for the Chiefs' meaningless Week 17 matchup. This means that Demetrius Harris will take over as the primary pass-catching tight end and is an interesting tournament target for stone minimum across the industry if under the belief that rookie signal caller Patrick Mahomes will have some success in his first career start.

Tyreek Hill out Sunday

Hill will join his quarterback Alex Smith on the sideline for the Chiefs' Week 17 matchup against the Broncos. Pat Mahomes will get his first career NFL action on Sunday and looks to show what he can do in an actual game. For now, the team has made no formal announcement on the status of Karem Hunt, as both backups Akeem Hunt and Charcandrick West are listed as questionable for Sunday's game. Both players are tentatively slated to suit up and could see a decent amount of work with many of the key starters for the Chiefs expected to rest.
