Alex Smith Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Terry McLaurin and Antonio Gibson both active tonight; Alex Smith inactive, as expected

Terry McLaurin and Antonio Gibson are both active tonight, giving the Football Team their top offensive weapons. Alex Smith is inactive, as expected, and Taylor Heinicke will start at QB instead. Washington has been winning with Smith at QB, but the offense has not been good, so the change to Heinicke may not actually be a hit to the offense.

Alex Smith, Antonio Gibson and Terry McLaurin all active Sunday night

Alex Smith, Antonio Gibson and Terry McLaurin are all active Sunday night, as expected based off reports from earlier today. The Washington Football Team can make the playoffs with a win tonight, so having these top options available is obviously crucial.

Alex Smith, Antonio Gibson and Terry McLaurin all expected to play

Alex Smith, Antonio Gibson and Terry McLaurin are all expected to play Sunday night. Despite their 6-9 record, the Football Team is in the playoffs as division champs with a win. This report is a positive sign for all three, but it will be important to confirm their statuses when inactives are released 90 minutes before kickoff.

Antonio Gibson is active today; Alex Smith, Terry McLaurin both inactive

Antonio Gibson is active today, while Alex Smith and Terry McLaurin are both inactive. None of these moves are surprising, but Alex Smith being inactive does make it clear that Dwayne Haskins will be the starter today.

Dwayne Haskins expected to start today

Dwayne Haskins is reportedly expected to start today, although the Football Team still hasn't announced anything official. Inactives may help clarify this situation, once released, but Haskins is the starter barring a further unexpected change.

Alex Smith (calf) officially ruled out for Sunday; Dwayne Haskins will start

Head coach Ron Rivera had echoed optimism about Smith's potential availability for Sunday's Week 15 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks all week, but Smith has ultimately been ruled out due to a calf injury that's held him out of practice. In his absence, Dwayne Haskins will receive another shot as Washington's starting quarterback after being bench in favor of Kye Allen just four games into the season. This change under center could be just what Terry McLaurin to reclaim his spot as one of the-highest volume wider receivers in the NFL, making him a fantastic option for all formats in daily fantasy contests across the industry this weekend.

Alex Smith (broken leg) placed on IR

Alex Smith has been placed on IR after suffering a gruesome leg injury in the team's Week 11 matchup against the Texans. The good news for Smith is that the injury reportedly isn't career-threatening, but he will be done for the rest of the season. Colt McCoy figures to serve as the starting QB in Smith's absence, and today the team signed veteran Mark Sanchez to serve as McCoy's backup. The depleted offense will have its work cut out for it against a stout Cowboys defense on Thanksgiving Day.

This Team's Offense and Defense are both in play this weekend

The Redskins had a surprisingly strong showing in the opening week of the season, with QB Alex Smith passing for 255 yards and two touchdowns, and the defense only allowing 6 points to Arizona in the road win. This week the Redskins face the Colts in their home opener, and they are 6-point favorites against an Indy defense that allowed the 5th-most passing yards per game last season. The Colts Offensive Line allowed the 6th-most QB hits both last week and last season, putting the Redskins Defense solidly in play as an underpriced unit, and Alex Smith and the Redskins passing game appear to be bargains as home favorites this week as well.

Under-priced Veteran QB Draws Weak Defense at Home

Alex Smith has had a remarkable season, averaging the second most fantasy points for a quarterback DraftKings (trailing on Russell Wilson) and ranking third in average FanDuel points (trailing Wilson and Cam Newton). He is still doesn't get a ton of respect in the pricing department though, ranking as the 5th-most expensive quarterback on DraftKings and the 9th-most expensive on FanDuel. This week Smith gets the benefit of playing the Miami pass defense at home, where Vegas has installed the Chiefs as 10-point favorites. The Dolphins rank 23rd in the league with 24 passing touchdowns allowed, 23rd in interceptions with only 9 on the season, and 26th in points-per-game allowed at 24.4. Smith may go overlooked due to concerns that the Chiefs will primarily run the ball, but entering the game only seven QBs have more pass attempts on the season than Smith, making him an appealing option for tournaments.

QB Could Be In Another Shootout This Week

With all of the focus on bargain Quarterbacks this week, it's easy to overlook the QB who was the top performer last week, Alex Smith. Smith and the Chiefs bounced back from a couple of disappointing games in a big way last week, throwing for 366 yards and 4 passing touchdowns on the road against the Jets. One big difference was Chiefs coach Andy Reid handing over play calling duties to offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. This week the Chiefs get a matchup this week at home against an Oakland pass defense that is last in the league, by far, in completion percentage allowed (70.1%) and interceptions (only 1 on the year). The Kansas City - Oakland game has the highest over/under on the main slate at 49, and with the Chiefs only being a 4 point favorite, KC could be involved in another shootout this week.
