Brice Butler Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Cowboys release WR Brice Butler
Cowboys have released WR Brice Butler in correspondence with their trading for Amari Cooper. Cooper will step in as the primary receiving option for the Cowboys.
Brice Butler (groin) inactive Sunday
Cowboys WR Brice Butler is officially inactive Sunday due to a groin injury. While no parts of the Cowboys passing attack are particularly appealing options on any given slate, this is especially true today as they square off against Jacksonville and their elite secondary. That said, Butler's absence may open up a few more targets for Cole Beasley and Geoff Swaim.
Terrance Williams inactive Sunday, Brice Butler active for the Cowboys
Terrance Williams is expected to be inactive Sunday, while Brice Butler will be active for the Cowboys receiving corps. No Cowboys WR has shown themselves to be a viable DFS option, and today against the Lions shapes up to be nothing different - expect a full workload from Zeke, and sporadic use of the rest of the Cowboys offensive weapons.
Brice Butler Going Back to Dallas
This move could make a mini-impact on DFS and season long leagues. Butler might very well be the most talented WR the Cowboys have on roster now and he has shown good chemistry with Dak Prescott in the past. It was always a matter of playing time. Now the Cowboys may have no other options but to play Butler. Stay tuned.
Terrance Williams (ankle), Brice Butler (ankle), and CB Orlando Scandrick (hand) active Monday night, CBs Chidobe Awuzie (hamstring) and Nolan Carroll (concussion) inactive
Darren McFadden is also inactive again, leaving Alfred Morris and Rod Smith with the backup running back duties. Dallas will be without two of their corners tonight when they take on the Cardinals, opening up an opportunity for Carson Palmer to emulate Trevor Siemian's success through the air in Week 2. They're healthier on the offensive side of the ball with Williams and Butler active. Cornerback Patrick Peterson is expected to shadow Dez Bryant tonight, which could cause the receiver some trouble. Through two weeks, Peterson has been in lockdown mode. Quarterbacks have only targeted his coverage six times and completed just two passes for 22 yards, although one of them was a touchdown for Marvin Jones. Peterson leads all cornerbacks by a mile in cover snaps per reception (43), per PFF. A tough matchup for Dez could lead to quarterback Dak Prescott firing towards Williams more often. In Week 1, when Bryant was under Janoris Jenkins' shadow, Williams led the team with 68 receiving yards. In both the first two games, tight end Jason Witten pulled down team-highs in receptions, and he's scored twice in a row. Arizona allowed tight end Jack Doyle to catch all eight of his targets for 79 yards a week ago. It's possible old man Witten continues to see a large market share and rides his hot start to the season.
Terrance Williams (ankle) and CB Chidobe Awuzie (hamstring) didn't practice Friday, Brice Butler (ankle) limited
Both Williams and Butler were dealing with ankle sprains leading up to the Broncos game last week and it appears the injuries are lingering. We'll find out their official game statuses tomorrow. If Willaims is able to suit up, it could be a nice spot to target him. Dez Bryant is expected to be stuck under Patrick Peterson's shadow while Williams battles Justin Bethel. When Bryant was working against Janoris Jenkins in Week 1, Williams took advantage and finished with a team-high 68 yards. So far this season, Bethel has been targeted the most among Arizona's CBs (15) and he's given up eight receptions, 129 yards, and two scores, per PFF.
Terrance Williams and Brice Butler both dealing with ankle sprains
Williams will be limited in practice Wednesday while coach Jason Garrett will monitor Butler to determine how much he can participate. Williams led the team with 68 receiving yards against the Giants in Week 1 as Janoris Jenkins shut down Dez Bryant in shadow coverage. This week, Bryant won't face a shadow and should match up with Bradley Roby a decent amount in sets with at least three receivers. Roby earned a poor 36.7 PFF game-grade in Week 1 and finished with a 48.7 in 2016. However, in terms of limiting fantasy production, he was effective, permitting just 0.22 fantasy points per route defended. Dallas faced a tough set of cornerbacks last week, which encouraged Dak Prescott to target Jason Witten a team-high nine times and led to Ezekiel Elliott setting a career-high with five catches. A similar approach may be taken by the second-year quarterback this week.
Dez Bryant inactive against Packers
This isn't a surprise even though Dez said he wanted to play. The Cowboys have a bye next week, so it makes sense for them to sit him one more game and let him rehab through their week off. Brice Butler is worth consideration in tournaments. He has 7 receptions, 61 yards, and a touchdown over the past two games. He'll face a Green Bay defense that ranks 19th in pass DVOA, per Football Outsiders.
Dez Bryant officially questionable
Adding to a previous report, Dez Bryan is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Packers. However, the expectation as of now is that he will not play. Dez will be a game time decision and we won't know whether he'll play until after he warms up. If he doesn't go, Brice Butler will be worth consideration for tournaments.
Cowboys unsure if Dez Bryant will play this week
Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett said Bryant would not practice today but that he was pleased with the progress his start WR had been making. That said, he was still unsure if Bryant would play on Sunday against the Packers. If Bryant can't go, Brice Butler and Terrance Williams should receive more opportunities and both make for viable DFS options going against a somewhat vulnerable Packers secondary.
