Calvin Ridley Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
ATL WR Calvin Ridley inactive Sunday
Ridley was ruled out due to a personal matter, a shock as the Falcons prepare to play the Carolina Panthers. Ridley's personal issue caused him to miss the game against the Jets in London three weeks ago, and he's had to miss again today. As one of the most popular plays on the slate and one of the top cash values, roster constructions will surely shift. Kyle Pitts is likely the biggest winner, as his target share will increase and he'll clearly be the top option. Russell Gage, Olamide Zaccheus, and Christian Blake/Tajae Sharpe will all see some more work as well at the WR position, as will TE Hayden Hurst. Cordarelle Patterson will sneakily gain some more work as wideout as well, and may be worth considering at the RB position as well.
ATL WR Calvin Ridley and WR Russell Gage both ruled out Sunday
The Falcons are traveling today to London, and Schefter dropped some big news; Calvin Ridley will not travel due to a personal matter, and will miss the game against the Jets Sunday morning. Gage was ruled out as well, as he'll be missing his third straight game due to an ankle injury. This leaves the Falcons perilously thin at WR, and some of the low level players will come into play as it's a showdown slate. Olamide Zaccheus will be out there, along with Christian Blake and Tajae Sharpe as the top three WRs. The Falcons do run two tight end sets more than most, so Kyle Pitts will likely be the top option for the team, while Hayden Hurst chips in as well. This may give more room for Cordarelle Patterson to continue his hot streak, as the team needs to distribute targets somewhere, and Patterson has done a good job of earning them when on the field.
Calvin Ridley 2021 Fantasy Outlook
Per RotoGrinders NFL player projections, Calvin Ridley is expected to be the fantasy WR5. He's being drafted on Underdog Fantasy as WR5 at pick 16, compared to his RotoGrinders ranking of 19 as of July. We currently expect a 28% target share which amounts to a projection of 169 targets (Rank 5) and 1414 receiving yards (Rank 5) during the 17 week fantasy season.
With Julio Jones gone, Calvin Ridley is ready to officially take over as the no. 1 option for quarterback Matt Ryan, but that's not all. If Ryan performs, Ridley has a chance to become the league's top receiver. We witnessed Ridley's ceiling in the very scenario last year, as he eclipsed 100 yards on double-digit targets in 5-of-7 games with Jones absent. While I love almost everything about Ridley's situation for fantasy football, oddsmakers seem to be giving him too much touchdown equity. The line is set as high as 10 at BetMGM, but we project him to find pay dirt closer to seven times. Touchdowns are awfully noisy, the Falcons have offensive concerns, and rookie TE Kyle Pitts could take away touchdown looks.
Julio Jones officially inactive today
Julio Jones is officially inactive today, opening up significant targets for the rest of the Falcons' offense. Calvin Ridley projects for a massive target share, with Russell Gage, Hayden Hurst, Olamide Zaccheaus and Christian Blake all getting boosts.
Julio Jones reportedly not expected to play today
While it has not been officially confirmed, Julio Jones is reportedly not expected to play today. No Jones would mean a massive target share for Calvin Ridley, plus Russell Gage and Olamide Zaccheaus also getting significant boosts. While Ian Rapoport said Jones is not expected to play, it is worth noting that Adam Schefter's last report on Jones was that the Falcons would make a decision Sunday morning. Confirmation should be available by the time inactives come out, if not earlier, but the current expectation is that Jones is out.
Calvin Ridley (foot) cleared to play on Sunday
Ridley was able to be a limited participant in practice all three days this week, and he will go without an injury designation on the Falcons' injury report for Sunday's Week 11 matchup against the New Orleans Saints, signaling his return from a one-game absence due to a foot injury. There's been no indication from interim head coach Raheem Morris or the team's media staff that Ridley will be limited in this weekend's contest, so he should be a full go and utilized as normal in daily fantasy formats across the industry. His return to the field definitely puts a significant dent in the projected target share of Julio Jones, while Olamide Zaccheus and Christian Blake will go back to their usual depth wide receiver roles following Zaccheus' stellar fantasy performance on 29 routes and six targets back in Week 9.
Calvin Ridley officially inactive today
Calvin Ridley is out Sunday for the Falcons, meaning Julio Jones should see a massive target share. Russell Gage, Christian Blake and Olamide Zaccheaus all could receive a boost in targets as well.
Schefter: Falcons think it will be tough for Calvin Ridley to play on Sunday
Schefter's report makes it sound like Ridley is closer to doubtful. Assuming he can't go, we should see an even bigger target share for Julio Jones with Russell Gage and Hayden Hurst likely to act as the top ancillary options in the passing game. Christian Blake and Olamide Zaccheaus should both see increased snaps with Ridley on the shelf, although both are nothing more than long-shot game stack options. We'll confirm Ridley's status once we get something more concrete.
Calvin Ridley (foot) officially listed as questionable for Sunday
Ridley was unable to participate in practice each of the last three days, but he's still been listed as questionable on the Falcon's injury report for Sunday's Week 9 matchup against the Denver Broncos due to a foot injury he sustained in Atlanta's previous contest. Interim head coach Raheem Morris even went as far as to say that he believes Ridley is in a "good spot" to suit up this weekend, but that seems like a massive exaggeration given Ridley's lack of participation in individual and team drills leading up to this game. As expected, Julio Jones has historically been a target monster when Ridley has been sidelined in his young career, so if Ridley is inactive, Jones because a tremendous option for all daily fantasy formats while Christian Blake appears to be the leading candidate to fill in at the third wide receiver position with Russell Gage largely manning the slot.
Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley questionable; Russell Gage expected to play Week 4
Jones and Ridley are both listed as questionable, but reportedly are "trending upwards" according to Coach Dan Quinn, indicating they're likely to play Monday night. Russell Gage has practiced fully and does not carry an injury designation, meaning he should play barring a return of any concussion symptoms.
