Rookie goalie looks to follow-up strong start
Carter Hart was brilliant last time out against the Boston Bruins, stopping 39 of 42 shots faced. While the Flyers have been awful this season, they are in a nice stretch here winning three of four games. They draw a favorable spot tonight as Montreal was in Columbus last night. Additionally, Antti Niemi figures to get the call as Price went last night. Montreal is averaging the fifth-most shots per game (33.2 SF/G) so the volume will be there again for Hart. Hart is a low-owned option at a cheap tag in tournaments.
Overpriced massively on DraftKings ($8,200) because of his recent stretch and the Flyers' woes, Antti Niemi enters the tournament conversation on FanDuel at just $7,700, on a night where cheap goalies are hard to find. After getting pounded by the Lightning for six goals on New Year's Eve, Antti Niemi has turned back the clock, winning three straight starts and scoring 40, 28 and 49.6 Fantasy Points in his last three outings.
Cheap Goalie Offers Upside at a Discount
Carter Hart was the "flavor of the month" for a while, but has faded from popularity lately. Hart's numbers have still been good, he just hasn't received the goal support needed to get many wins. On the year, he has a 2.54 GAA and .916 SV%, both respectable numbers. At home, he's been even better with a 2.16 GAA and 3-2-1 record. He's in a pick'em game, so the win it's guaranteed, but I do think he escapes with a victory in a close game.
Cheap Goalie Could Pay Dividends
I don't love any of the goalies tonight, so I'll be looking to pay down in an effort to spend up on skaters. Carter Hart has been a mixed bag to start his career, but there's no denying the talent. He's been much better at home with a 2.50 GAA and .905 SV%. Tonight, he'll face the Blues at home, a team who ranks in the bottom five in the league in goals scored. They will also be without Tyler Bozak, who is a staple on the number one power play. Hart and the Flyers are a -125 and I expect them to pick up a win tonight.
Elite Goalie Prospect To Make NHL Debut
Carter Hart is arguably the best goalie prospect in any organization, and he's set to make his NHL debut tonight against the Red Wings. Hart has already won the award for the best goalie in CHL twice at the age of 18. The defense in front of him will still be shaky, but his offense should provide plenty of goal support against Detroit, who has been outscored by almost a goal per game on the road this season. He's near minimum price across the industry and should be in line for a win in his debut.
