Chris Owings Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Cheap Leadoff Hitter With Platoon Advantage
Chris Owings - leadoff hitter for the Boston Red Sox. Never did I expect that in the year 2019, but here we are. He's cheap, in a great ballpark and lineup spot, and the game environment doesn't get much better. Patrick Sandoval is a lefty too, so he'll hold the platoon advantage. Owings isn't a great hitter and he should be chalky (meaning I'm okay being underweight in GPPs), but he makes for a strong cash game play here as a salary saver.
Cheap Exposure To The Must Play Game
With a high end pitcher and a high end bat in your lineup, we'll need any possible savings we can get on DK/FDRFT while staying on the Coors Field game where possible. Enter Chris Owings, and teammates Nick Ahmed and Ketel Marte. Owings has dual position eligibility, giving him a slight boost. He also has a high fly ball lean to offset the one skills of Kyle Freeland. All cheap Diamondbacks righties are in play today.
Cheap Coors
Keep an eye on Torey Lovullo's lineup card on Sunday as whoever grabs the better lineup spot between Ahmed/Owings will dictate which guy is the best value play on DK's main slate. Neither player is very skilled offensively but platoon advantage + Coors + price tag under $4K = almost automatic cash game play. It's likely your DK cash game lineup will feature both of these guys.
Bad But Good
I can't claim to know what Torey Luvullo's lineup card will look like but regardless of how it unfolds we should be able to mine some value out of the Diamondbacks. Chris Owings, Jarrod Dyson, Nick Ahmed and Ketel Marte are beyond terrible offensive players but are all priced $3K or below on DraftKings. Despite being poor offensively, this is still a good spot to invest as the DBacks get a favorable matchup against German Marquez in Coors. The Diamondbacks have the highest implied run total (5.3) on a relatively low scoring slate and all of these guys represent a cheap way to get exposure to a good offensive environment. Jarrod Dyson is my favorite option of the bunch if he gets the leadoff role.
Cheap Plays In An Elite Environment
I'll come back and update the DK/FDRFT Core Plays after we see the Arizona lineup, but there are going to be at least a couple of way-too-cheap Diamondbacks hitters in Coors Field tonight. Chris Owings, Ketel Marte, Jarrod Dyson and Nick Ahmed are all $3k/$6k or less, and in Coors Field against a pitcher who will allow balls in play, that is just too cheap to pass up.
Beggars Can't Be Choosers
Comerica is the only hitter's park in play on Monday night so naturally we're going to end up stacking some teams that contextually do not have a favorable environment. The Diamondbacks are one of those teams as they'll square off against a rejuvenated Derek Holland at pitcher friendly AT&T Park in San Francisco. Holland is one of the weaker pitchers on the slate as his 4.80 SIERA, 19.4 K% and 7.8 SwStr% are actually marked improvements over the last couple of years. A Diamondbacks stack is a bit limited as you're unlikely to get power out of anyone not named Paul Goldschmidt but beggars can't be choosers on this short slate.
Bats heating up in the desert
The Diamondbacks have scored 25 runs over the past 3 games and look to be in a nice spot again tonight against Caleb Smith and that awful Marlins bullpen. Smith has been very good this year but can get wild at times and I still like the matchup for the Arizona righties.. Since the start of last season the Nick Ahmed, Paul Goldschmidt and John Ryan Murphy all have ISO's over .280 vs the opposite hand. They have been particularly good at home with the roof open so make sure to check before gametime as the ball will carry much better in that heat if the roof is open. I'm not sure whether I'm fully stacking against Smith or mini stacking but at these prices and what should be low ownership, Owings, Goldschmidt, Ahmed and Murphy will be in a fair share of my lineups tonight.
Cheap Diamondbacks
Unfortunately cheap Diamondback hitters are likely going to be a common theme of cash game lineups throughout the year. The Diamondbacks are a team that fairly aggressively platoons it's hitters which helps lead to lower price tags of these hitters that aren't in the lineup daily. Owings got knocked up in Thursday's game but passed the concussion protocol and I would expect him to be back in the middle of the Dbacks order Saturday night against the southpaw Clayton Richard. Owings, like Descalso whom was a high owned dud in cash games last night, does not project to be a strong offensive player, but does have a favorable matchup Saturday night and does project to have some valuable at bats with RBI opportunities. If you're trying to get Sale + Coors in your lineup, you're going to have to save somewhere.
Zach Davies owns just a 6.6% K-BB% versus RHB this season
Zach Davies continues to be just a serviceable starting pitcher at the Major League level and is someone that we typically don't go out of our way to plug in lineups or go out of our way to avoid rostering opposing hitters. Tonight he'll take on a dangerous Arizona Diamondbacks offense at home in one of the top home run parks in the league, meaning this is actually a boost to the home run expectations of Diamondbacks hitters, contrary to popular belief. Davies is a perfectly average starting pitcher, evidenced by his 19.0% career strikeout rate to batters from both sides of the plate, accompanied by an average 46.1% groundball rate and a 33.7% hard hit rate. Given the neutral matchup, we should give the edge to the Arizona hitters, as they will astonishingly roll out five bats that sport wOBAs over .380 versus right-handed pitching on the season. Those bats are obviously headlined by the likes of Paul Goldschmidt (188 wRC+, .472 wOBA, .317 ISO) and Jake Lamb (177 wRC+, .455 wOBA, .353 ISO), closely followed by Brandon Drury (138 wRC+, .395 wOBA, .206 ISO), Chris Herrmann (135 wRC+, .391 wOBA, .333 ISO), and David Peralta (130 wRC+, .382 wOBA). While Chris Owings (111 wRC+, .353 wOBA) isn't elite enough against righties to join the company of the aforementioned players, he possesses enough skills at the plate to realistically be included as a part of Diamondbacks stacks in tournaments.
Chris Owings (illness) scratched from Diamondbacks lineup tonight
Owings has officially been scratched from the Diamondbacks lineup for tonight's game against the Colorado Rockies due to an illness. Gregor Blanco will replace him in the lineup and bat eighth. This will move Nick Ahmed up to the two-hole in the order and immediately vaults him into cash game consideration for a reasonable price tag across the industry.
