Christin Stewart Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Christin Stewart (manager's decision) scratched Monday; JaCoby Jones replaces
Stewart has been scratched from the Detroit Tigers original confirmed lineup and will not start in Monday’s matchup against the Detroit Tigers due to a manager's decision to alter his lineup card. He’ll be replaced in the lineup by JaCoby Jones, who will play center field and slot into the ninth spot in the order, which bumps Victor Reyes up two spots to seventh, respectively. However, the remainder of the Tigers lineup will stay intact offensively as they face off against left-hander Mike Montgomery at home this evening.
Cheap Low-Owned Stack To Pay Up At Pitching
It's rare that we see the Tigers with higher than a 5 implied run total, but in his short time in the majors, Jacob Waguespack has shown to be a below-average ground ball pitcher with walk issues. Nearly all the Detroit bats are under $4k on DraftKings and make for great lineup fillers for salary relief to pay up at pitching, especially one of the OFs between Jacoby Jones, Nick Castellanos, or Christin Stewart. The full 5-man stack is currently rated 3rd for value, allows you to fill in a cheap catcher, and should be under 2% owned as a combination in large-field GPPs.
Detroit projected lineup has value and some upside vs. Jays’ Waguespack
Over 13.2 innings as both a starter and reliever with the Jays thus far, Waguespack has a 5.93 ERA, 4.15 xFIP and 4.04 SIERA with a 15.3% K-BB. In 52.2 innings in AAA this year, Waguespack had a 5.30 ERA with a 4.96 xFIP and 11.4% K-BB. Projection systems have Waguespack as a roughly 5 ERA pitcher going forward and is someone we can target. The Tigers certainly don’t have a good offense as they actually have a league-worst 74 wRC+ vs. RHP on the year. But the fact is they are incredibly cheap on both major sites this afternoon, especially on Draftkings where every one of their hitters besides Niko Goodrum will be available under $4k. Harold Castro (.328 xwOBA vs. RHP this year), JaCoby Jones (.327), Miguel Cabrera (.327), Nick Castellanos (.322), Christin Stewart (.317), Jeimer Candelario (.303) and Niko Goodrum (.297) are all options. Jordy Mercer (.347) actually has their highest xwOBA vs. RHP but is projected to bat last, tanking his value. Jacoby Jones ($3.6k on DK), Castro ($3.6k) and Miggy ($3k) are projected to bat 1-2-3 and are all great value options. Candelario ($3.7k) has been their hottest hitter since the break with a .360 xwOBA, followed by Castro with a .348 mark. The Tigers currently have a health 5.10 implied line vs. Waguespack and the Blue Jays.
Off The Board Cheap One-Offs Against Extreme Fly Ball Pitcher
With much attention in Coors/Wrigley and multiple high total teams tonight, Tigers lefties will easily go overlooked against Adam Plutko who has a staggering 50%+ FB rate and measly 12% K rate in this split. While I'd be unlikely to stack in this spot with the Tigers sporting only a 4.4 implied run total, Christin Stewart & Jeimer Candelario both have enough pop in their bats to take one out of the park for under a $4k price tag on DraftKings at a sub-5% ownership.
Tigers Stack an Intriguing Option vs. Pineda
Pineda has been largely the same pitcher this year that we’re used to seeing: he limits walks and gets a decent amount of Ks, but gives up lots of loud contact and seemingly always has an ERA much higher than his estimators. This year, Pineda is giving up more loud contact than ever with a 45.9% hard contact rate, a 1.85 HR/9 and just a 36.7% GB rate, all career worsts. He also has a 90.9 aEV and .357 xwOBA allowed, also career worsts. Pineda has actually been worse vs. RHB this year with a .381 xwOBA allowed so far. Nick Castellanos (.365 xwOBA vs. RHP since 2018), Miguel Cabrera (.354), Gordon Beckham (.345, 83 PA), Ronny Rodriguez (.291) and John Hicks (.287) are right-handed options in the Tigers projected order. Christin Stewart (.365) and Jeimer Candelario (.281) project to hit in the top third of the order and are also in play. Ronny Rodriguez has been the Tigers hottest hitter over the past 10 days with a .398 xwOBA. Tigers bats should be pretty contrarian given just a 3.75 implied line Saturday afternoon in Minnesota.
Cheap top of the order bats for a well projected offense
The Tigers are sitting at 4.58 implied runs, which a mark that reaches the top third of the ball tonight because batters from either side of the plate are above a .325 wOBA and xwOBA against Ian Kennedy, an extreme fly ball pitcher. The Tigers have just one legitimate bat in Nick Castellanos (116 wRC+, .202 ISO vs RHP this season), but Christin Stewart (145 wRC+, .212 ISO) has done some damage in a small sample and both he and leadoff man Jacoby Jones (76 wRC+, .172 ISO) are extremely cheap, perhaps affording the opportunity to pay up for pitching tonight.
The Power Looks Real
Stewart is likely to be popular after this two-HR night on Thursday, but at this salary, it's tough to pass on him. Ian Kennedy allows an extreme amount of hard contact and fly balls to left-handed batters and has been one of the most homer prone pitchers in the league over the past few season. Stewart hit 23 HR in Triple-A this season, and has hit for power with a fly ball lean at every level he's played at.
Free Power
As I've built lineups throughout the day, I can't stop landing on Stewart as a cheap power source on FanDuel in all formats. He is batting second, facing one of the most power prone pitchers in the league and he costs $2,100. He makes so many other things work, I'm adding him to the Core. He has big power and the time to play for it is against a low strikeout pitcher like Josh Tomlin.
