Corey Coleman Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Patriots acquire WR Josh Gordon via trade; Healthy enough to play Sunday

New England gave up a conditional 5th round draft pick for the talented and troubled wide receiver today, releasing WR Corey Coleman in a corresponding move. Additionally, Ian Rapoport reports that Gordon has recovered from last week's hamstring issue and is healthy enough to play. He should immediately be inserted as one of the Patriots' top 3 wide receivers while WR Julian Edelman continues serving his suspension. However, he'll need to get acclimated to the playbook so projecting initial playing time will be a challenge until later in the week. Regardless, this is a great outcome for Gordon's long-term fantasy outlook IF he can live up to the Patriots' expectations. QB Tom Brady also gets a small boost from the addition of Gordon, though the target share for New England's pass-catchers will be spread pretty thin once Edelman returns, potentially making it hard to rely on any of them week to week.

Patriots sign Corey Coleman

Former First Rounder, Corey Coleman will sign with the Patriots in hopes of rejuvenating his NFL career. It remains to be seen how this will affect the current New England receiving corps.

Is This Guy Really Going To Go Overlooked?

How talented is Corey Coleman? He posted a 5-53-1 line on the Steelers in Week 1 on only six targets (the Steelers are a top six defense vs WRs). He posted a 6-80-0 line on the Jaguars on 11 targets (the Jaguars are the number one defense vs WRs). He posted a 3-64-0 line against the Bengals on eight targets (the Bengals are a top three defense vs WRs). With all the attention on Josh Gordon, Coleman is likely to go entirely overlooked in tourneys this week, and while his targets are "less guaranteed" with Gordon on the field, there is still a strong chance he sees seven or eight looks this week. At low ownership, in a good matchup, with monstrous talent-driven upside on that level of looks, Coleman is a fantastic salary-saver in tourneys, as a moderate-risk, massive-reward play.

Chargers CB Casey Hayward will play Week 13

Hayward is mourning the loss of his brother but he'll suit up this weekend against the Browns. Per ESPN's Tony Grossi, the Chargers have been planning to have Hayward follow Josh Gordon, which spells trouble for the receiver. Hayward has earned PFF's top coverage grade among all CBs and he's limited receivers to an impressive 45% catch rate (per PFF). That would leave Corey Colemen with Trevor Williams most of the game. Williams has allowed fewer fantasy points per route defended than Hayward (0.16 to 0.19) and he's earned PFF's 13th-best cover grade. As a unit, the Chargers are sixth in pass DVOA, fifth in receiving yards allowed to WRs, and 12th in PPR points given up to the position. It's a tough spot for Gordon's first game back.

Chargers CB Casey Hayward questionable for Week 13, Mike Williams ruled out

Hayward is mourning the loss of his brother but he's expected to suit up this weekend against the Browns. He'll likely shadow Corey Coleman, which spells trouble for the receiver. Hayward has earned PFF's top cover grade among all CBs and he's limited receivers to an impressive 45% catch rate (per PFF). Our WR/CB matchup tool provides Coleman the fourth-worst rating of the week. Williams' absence will provide Travis Benjamin more snaps but the rookie was a part-time player, so it won't change very much on this offense.

Bengals CB Darqueze Dennard active Week 12; John Ross inactive

Corey Coleman will see Dennard the most. He was impressive last week, pulling down 6-of-10 targets for 80 yards against Jacksonville, whose pass defense is the best in football. The Bengals are 14th in pass DVOA but eighth against WR1s but they've conceded the fifth-fewest PPR points to receivers. Dre Kirkpatrick will be the other outside CB today. Both he and Dennard appear to be exploitable defenders. They've allowed three touchdowns each and rank 44th and 32nd in yards per cover snap, respectively (per PFF). With the sheer lack of talent around him, Coleman should pick up plenty of targets and he's only $4.3k on DraftKings.

Bengals S Shawn Williams ruled out for Week 12, CB Darqueze Dennard questionable

The Bengals could have a thin secondary against the Browns on Sunday as Williams and Dennard are both starters. Corey Coleman would see Dennard the most, so he stands to benefit if the corner is sidelined. He was impressive last week, pulling down 6-of-10 targets for 80 yards against Jacksonville, whose pass defense is the best in football. The Bengals are 14th in pass DVOA but eighth against WR1s and they've conceded the fifth-fewest PPR points to receivers. With the sheer lack of talent around him, Coleman should pick up plenty of targets though and he's only $4.3k on DraftKings.

Corey Coleman activated from IR, expected to have full workload Week 11

Coach Hue Jackson said Coleman is healthy and will be out there this weekend against the Jaguars. It's possibly the worst matchup a receiver can come back to considering how dominant Jacksonville's pass defense has been. They're first in yards per attempt (5.9), passer rating (65.9), and PPR points allowed to WR (21.69/g). On the bright side, Coleman was dealing with a hand injury, so he shouldn't have had any issues staying in football shape while on the IR. Plus, the Browns are desperate for a competent receiver. With Kenny Britt injured and in the dog house for most of Coleman's absence, Ricardo Louis has been the de facto WR1 but he hasn't caught more than three passes over the past four games and he's failed to find the end zone once this year. Britt managed to pick up 55 snaps last week and even scored once but he only added one other catch for 19 yards. Running back Duke Johnson continues to pace the team in receptions (42), targets (54), and receiving yards (358). It's possible Johnson loses some looks with Coleman back. The receiver will primarily line up across from A.J. Bouye, who's shut down pass-catchers this season, limiting them to a 41.7% catch rate and the ninth-fewest fantasy points per route defended (0.18, per PFF). Even so, given the sheer lack of talent, quarterback DeShone Kizer may force-feed Coleman targets on Sunday. The question will be how productive Coleman can be with his opportunities against an elite secondary in his first NFL game in two months.

Corey Coleman will play Week 11

Coach Hue Jackson said Coleman is healthy and will be out there this weekend against the Jaguars. It's possibly the worst game a receiver can come back to and he could potentially be limited in some capacity given his extended absence. On the bright side, he was dealing with a hand injury, so he shouldn't have had any issues staying in football shape. Corey Coleman placed on IR

Coleman underwent surgery Monday to repair a broken hand. It looks like his recovery is expected to take about eight weeks, which is when he'll be eligible to return. Cleveland has bumped Rashard Higgins into a starting role on their depth chart, although beat writer Pat McManamon believes Ricardo Louis will get the "start" while Higgins primarily operates out of the slot. Higgins is still the top fantasy target and may essentially become their WR1 while Coleman is sidelined. In Week 2, he out-snapped starter Kenny Britt 54 to 42 and racked up a team-high 11 targets to Britt's two - Louis picked up 32 snaps and two targets. Higgins will be an appealing GPP option this week against a Colts team that has the early looks of an ideal pass funnel defense to pick on. After facing Todd Gurley and the collection of Cardinals running backs sans David Johnson, the Colts have limited runners to 2.5 yards per carry, the second-best mark in the league. At the same time, they've allowed the fourth-most passing yards per game (308) and second-most yards per attempt (9.8). Considering the Browns have struggled to move the ball on the ground, averaging 3.3 yards per carry, the eighth-worst rate in the league, Higgins should be given ample opportunity to produce against a weak secondary.
