Derek Stepan Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Value in the Desert
The Arizona Coyotes are one of the least exciting teams to target in NHL DFS, but that doesn't mean there isn't value to be had. The second line of Derek Stepan, Josh Archibald, and Lawson Crouse costs you just $10,800 on DraftKings, or an average of $3600 per player. That allows you to load up on another expensive line or some pricy defensemen like Brent Burns. Archibald and Crouse should play about 15-16 minutes, while Stephan will be closer to 20, including time on the power play. They face a Florida team on the second of a back-to-back tonight and should be able to control the tempo of the game.
Cheap center viable in all formats
While he hasn't shown much upside with the Coyotes, Derek Stepan draws a nice matchup tonight in Ottawa against everyone's favorite team to target against. The Coyotes have been playing better as of late, going 5-1-1 over their last seven games and Stepan has been a factor as he continues to log a bevy of minutes. Stepan had five shots on goal last time out to go along with two assists in the Coyotes' 4-2 win in Toronto. Stepan makes for a secondary cash game target and a worthy target in tournaments either as a line stack or power play stack.
Coyote center looks for better luck in rematch
Arizona is off to another poor start having been shutout in consecutive games, and while John Gibson is not the best goalie to target against, Stepan is priced like a scrub on DraftKings, where he is just $4,200. Stepan logged 24 minutes of ice time last time against the Ducks and took a jaw-dropping nine shots on goal. If you are looking for a cheap center that has a reasonable floor due to his two-way play, Stepan should be on your radar especially on a three game slate. Stepan will chew minutes and could surprise the 3-0 Anaheim Ducks.
This short slate means you have to use players you don't normally go to
This is a short, 3-game slate and I'm sure you rarely use Arizona Coyotes. However, you may have to go there tonight and the line you should be looking at is the top line of Derek Stepan, Clayton Keller and Brendan Perlini. The Vancouver Canucks allow a 63.05 CA/60 over their last 10 games which is the seventh worst in the NHL. While Arizona does not create a lot of offence, they should be able to produce tonight in one of the easier matchups. The Canucks are without Brock Boeser for the remainder of the season and their team is looking like a disaster. This line stack comes in on the cheaper end and will allow you to pay up for one of the more expensive stud lines on the night.
Stepan Sneaky Saturday?
While the attention will go to the Penguins facing off against the inept Arizona defense, the matchup is not half bad for the Coyote offense either. We can expect Stepan and the top line to see a decent clip of time against the Sidney Crosby line for Pittsburgh. Crosby does not have elite defensive on-ice numbers this year. Though his current line makeup is new, Crosby and Jake Guentzel have been on the ice for plenty of time together. Their results have not been great as they have allowed 62.65 shot attempts and a sketchy 15.12 high-danger shot attempts per hour at 5v5. Stepan and the Coyotes may not have eye-popping offensive numbers, but they get a boost playing against a weak Pittsburgh defensive team.
Coyotes' center returns to familiar venue
Arizona has been awful, but this could be a time for Derek Stepan to shine against a New Jersey team sporting the second-worst 5v5 xGA/60 (2.83) in the National Hockey League. The Hastings, Minnesota native has seven points in 10 games and should relish taking on a familiar foe. Devils' netminder Cory Schneider has allowed 16 goals in his last four appearances, and there is no telling how rusty he will be for his first start after suffering an injury almost two weeks ago. Stepan is logging over 20 minutes a game and sees sufficient time on the Coyotes' top power play unit. He is certain to fly under-the-radar.
Struggling Road Team In Prime Opportunity
Returning to Madison Square Garden in his first game as an opposing player, center Derek Stepan has a new home in Arizona where he has found instant chemistry skating alongside talented young playmakers Max Domi and Clayton Keller. This line draws a great matchup against a weak Rangers team that allows too many shots and scoring chances for their own good. Logging heavy ice time and even strength and the top power play for a youthful Coyotes squad this season, there is no reason to assume Stepan, Domi, and Keller won't be able to easily pay off their reasonable salaries in a game that features plenty of scoring potential.

Off-season acquisition looking to make a splash
New acquisition Derek Stepan will play a big role for what should be an improved Arizona team. The longtime New York Ranger centers a talented top line with young Max Domi and rookie Clayton Keller. In Stepan’s debut, he did not find the scoresheet as he could only muster three shots on goal and a blocked shot, but his linemates had strong games as Domi potted a goal and an assist while Keller also found a goal on six shots - all against a strong Ducks' defense. The Coyotes have the pleasure of taking on a Vegas Golden Knights group that will struggle all season long. They were able to surprise a sluggish Stars squad last night, but it will be tough to duplicate tonight at Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona. Stepan is a surprising $4,800 on FanDuel where he checks in as one of the top values of the night. Look for Stepan to find the scoresheet at least once with upside for much more.
