Devonta Freeman Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Ravens sign RB Devonta Freeman to active roster
With the release of Trenton Cannon, the Ravens had an open spot for an RB to join Ty'Son Williams and Latavius Murray ahead of Sunday night against the KC Chiefs. They had both Devonta Freeman and Le'Veon Bell on the practice squad, and chose to promote Freeman to the roster. Freeman will likely be the third RB, but there's certainly volatility behind the projections, as it's unclear if Murray or Williams will lead the way, and how much Freeman will chip in.
Ravens to sign Devonta Freeman
Freeman was signed by the Ravens as they try to fortify their RB room with the loss of Gus Edwards, who is expected to have suffered a torn ACL. Freeman will join Ty'Son Williams, Trenton Cannon, and Le'Veon Bell, who is still on the practice squad. The expectation is that Freeman will join the 53-man roster, but we should have more clarity closer to the Ravens game kickoff.
Devonta Freeman (ankle) placed on injured reserve, officially ruled out for Sunday
Freeman injured his hamstring at practice this week, and the Giants have opted to place him on injured reserve, effectively ruling him out of Sunday's Week 10 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles and at least the following two games due to the hamstring and an ankle injury that already forced him to miss two week. In his absence, Wayne Gallman has largely been able to work as the lead back, but he has found himself in much more of a three-way timeshare than he was back in Week 7 when Freeman exited the game early with the aforementioned ankle injury. Over this span, Gallman has logged a concerning 47.7% snap rate and ceded 17 carries to practice squad call-up, Alfred Morris, essentially making him unusable in daily fantasy formats with Dion Lewis also siphoning away passing game usage on third downs. This appears to be a situation to avoid for the time being and may even remain a fantasy wasteland once Freeman is cleared to return to game action.
Devonta Freeman (ankle) officially ruled out for Sunday
Despite being limited in practice on Thursday, the Giants have opted to be cautious with Freeman and have officially ruled him out of Sunday's Week 9 matchup against the Washington Football Team due to an ankle injury that's now forced him to miss two games. In his absence, Wayne Gallman was able to work as the lead back once again, but he found himself in much more of a three-way timeshare than he was back in Week 7 when Freeman exited the game early with the aforementioned injury. Gallman logged a concerning 43.9% snap rate and ceded eight carries to practice squad call-up, Alfred Morris, which essentially removes him consideration in daily fantasy formats with Dion Lewis also siphoning away passing game usage on third downs. This appears to be a situation to avoid for the time being and may even remain a fantasy wasteland once Freeman is cleared to return to game action.
Devonta Freeman ruled out for Monday night
Devonta Freeman has been ruled out for Monday night, setting Wayne Gallman up to be the lead back for the Giants this week. The Giants are significant underdogs, which typically creates a bad game script for a RB, although Gallman is helped by being fairly active in the passing game. He caught all 5 of his targets last week, although they totaled just 20 yards. Dion Lewis should work as the second RB, with Elijhaa Penny and Alfred Morris also options to get snaps.
Devonta Freeman will sign with Giants, pending COVID-19 testing and physical
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Giants and Freeman have agreed to terms on a contract pending Freeman's successful passing of a physical and intake COVID-19 testing. As long as everything goes to plan, Freeman could reportedly participate in practice as early as Wednesday, which could potentially put him on track to at least play a limited role in the offensive gameplan come Sunday's Week 3 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon. This should keep Dion Lewis in the backup running back role once Freeman is up to speed, while Wayne Gallman would likely remain as the third-stringer to provide depth at the position after being a healthy inactive for this past week's loss to the Chicago Bears.
Underpriced For Potential Workload
Devonta Freeman continues to see a substantial amount of work, but the price does not follow that trend. Freeman being below 6.5k on both main sites is very interesting considering he is seeing nearly 60% of carries and 10% of targets. That steady workload, in a great matchup with a potentially favorable game script makes Freeman a very strong play this week.
Devonta Freeman (Knee) Limited in Practice Thursday
Freeman was limited in practice Thursday, one day after not participating. He appears on track to play this week.
Devonta Freeman (Knee) Does Not Practice; Julio Jones (Shoulder) Limited Wednesday
Devonta Freeman did not practice Wednesday, while Julio Jones was limited.
Underpriced RB With Steady Usage
Devonta Freeman has found himself on my radar quite frequently this year, and while that has not always been a successful strategy, he has more often than not been given the opportunity to succeed. With Freeman receiving 65% of the team's carries and being targeted on 10% of Atlanta's passes this season, he is often in the mix considering he has had a cheap price tag all year. Now, he gets one of the better matchups for RBs this season in a home game against the Panthers, who just allowed Derrius Guice to run all over them on just 10 carries. The Panthers are dead last in DVOA against the run, and the Falcons have an implied total of 25 here and are favorites over Carolina.
