Struggling blue liner could pay dividends against Penguins
Given the likelihood John Carlson is the most popular defenseman tonight, a route to take is through teammate Dmitry Orlov who is off to another slow start to the season, much like his 2017-18 campaign. Accordingly, Orlov is priced down ($3,300 on DraftKings) despite a strong matchup against a struggling Pittsburgh defense. Orlov really shined against the Penguins in four 2017-18 regular season meetings, tallying two goals and an assist. His price across the industry frees up salary to spend up at center and wing while also gaining an edge if Carlson has a mediocre night.
Reasonably high-floor for this bargain blue-liner
Ok, so he has just three points through 18 games and the matchup (on the road in Nashville) is far from ideal… but hear me out. Nashville is easily the most penalized team in the NHL, averaging nearly 16 PIM per game this season! Meanwhile Orlov lit the lamp in their last outing and is seeing a very steady dose of playing time with Washington's second power-play unit. He's also averaging nearly two shots on goal per game this season, giving him a fine floor at this bargain-bin price.
