Drew Brees Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Taysom Hill and Latavius Murray both inactive
Taysom Hill and Latavius Murray are both inactive, confirming earlier reports. Expect Alvin Kamara and Drew Brees to both benefit from Hill being out, while Dwayne Washington and Ty Montgomery will handle the limited work available at RB behind Kamara.
Taysom Hill, Latavius Murray both reportedly not likely to play
Taysom Hill and Latavius Murray are both reportedly not likely to play today for the Saints. The absence of Hill is a boost for both Drew Brees and the running backs, as Hill often vultures TDs from both. If Murray is out, the Saints have Dwayne Washington and Ty Montgomery as the RBs behind Alvin Kamara. Neither received consistent work throughout the season. Washington got slightly more work the first 16 weeks, while Montgomery had a 100-yard rushing game during Week 17 (when the Saints were without their top-3 RBs).
Tre’Quan Smith activated off of IR
Tre’Quan Smith was activated Saturday off of IR, making him eligible to play on Sunday. The Saints are finally getting healthy at WR after a season full of injuries at the position. It will be worth confirming tomorrow that Smith is actually active for the game, but that seems like the plan, barring a setback.
Saints place Michael Thomas on injured reserve, will miss the rest of the regular season
The Saints have placed Michael Thomas on injured reserve, meaning he will miss the rest of the regular season. However, he is expected to return for the playoffs, at or near 100% healthy. Thomas' absence, combined with Drew Brees returning, sets Alvin Kamara up as an elite option the rest of the regular season. Emmanuel Sanders and Tre'Quan Smith will both also get nice boosts with Thomas out.
Drew Brees (ribs) will start at QB for the Saints on Sunday
Despite head coach, Sean Payton, telling reporters that Brees was a "ways away" from returning earlier in the week, Brees has officially been cleared by the medical staff and will start at quarterback in Sunday's Week 15 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs after missing four games due to several fractured ribs and a punctured lung. Brees will wear the usual protective equipment around his rib cage area, but other than that he appears to be a full-go for this weekend's contest. This will relegate Taysom Hill back to the second or third-string quarterback on the depth chart, and he'll likely resume his gadget role on offense and as a special teams contributor. As for Brees, he'll be without his top wide receiver in Michael Thomas in Week 15, but he'll still have the services of Alvin Kamara, who racked up a 27.1% target share when Thomas was sidelined earlier in the season.
Michael Thomas ruled out for Monday
The Saints have reportedly ruled Michael Thomas out for Monday night. This is a bit surprising, as he was trending towards returning, but instead he will miss his fourth straight game. Tre'Quan Smith, Emmanuel Sanders and Alvin Kamara will all continue to see increased targets. Jared Cook also has a chance to return after missing Week 4, and would see a boost in targets from Thomas being out.
Drew Brees' Knee has Inflammation, Will Not Impact His Availability Sunday
Drew Brees' appearance on the first injury report of the week appears to be mainly precautionary, and his availability Sunday should not be impacted by his knee injury. The Saints are expected to play their usual starters, as they can still improve their playoff seed.
Drew Brees (Knee), Michael Thomas (Hand) Limited on Estimated Practice Report Wednesday
Brees and Thomas were both listed as limited on the Saints' estimated practice report Wednesday. Both are still expected to play this week, as the Saints could still improve their playoff seed.
Jared Cook (Concussion) is Active Tonight for Saints
As expected, Cook is active tonight for the Saints. The TE has been on a roll, totaling 26 catches for 443 yards and 6 TDs over his past seven games. He left the Saints' last game with a concussion, only played eight offensive snaps, and still finished with 64 yards and 2 TDs.
The Top Passing Game Stack
With the Saints looking to close out the NFC South, don’t expect them to get shut down by the Falcons a second time. This could be a statement game on a national stage for the Saints, as they have looked beatable over the last month while San Francisco has looked like the best team in the NFC. Despite their inconsistencies as a team, though, Michael Thomas has looked like the best receiver in the NFL all season long. He has seen double digit targets in seven straight games and has eight or more catches in all of those. He leads the league in catches by 23. He leads the league in targets. He leads the league in receiving yards. He should continue to thrive against an underwhelming Falcons secondary, and the Brees/Thomas stack is clearly the top overall duo on the board for this short three game slate.
