Drew Hutchison Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Same-handed batters have been better against this pitcher in a great spot tonight
The run line for the Twins is climbing and up to 5.52 for their trip to Texas against Drew Hutchison, who has allowed has allowed 17 runs through four starts, striking out more than two just once. Combined with his bullpen work, batters from either side are above a .370 wOBA against him, though xwOBA favors RHBs, pushing them up above .400, as there's a 12 point difference in his hard hit rate, favoring same-handed batters. Eddie Rosario (128 wRC+, .218 ISO vs RHP this season) is still the top bat here, though he's down to a .333 xwOBA against RHP this year as well. Mitch Garver (127 wRC+, .178 ISO), Miguel Sano (90 wRC+, .212 ISO) and Tyler Austin (88 wRC+, .245 ISO) have all at least shown power from the right-hand side.
Three HRs, seven walks and two strikeouts in two starts with a terrible bullpen behind him
Drew Hutchison has started two games for the Rangers in August. He's allowed nine runs in 8.1 innings with three HRs, seven walks and two strikeouts. The Rangers have one of the worst bullpens in perhaps the most positive run environment in play tonight. The Angels kind of just stopped after scoring five in the first last night, but this is another spot where a Trout-less offense should shine. Kole Calhoun (110 wRC+, .216 ISO vs RHP last calendar year), Justin Upton (137 wRC+, .245 ISO) and Shohei Ohtani (171 wRC+, .312 ISO) are your top bats here. David Fletcher (99 wRC+, .087 ISO) costs just $3.3K on DK in the two spot.
Hutchison had a 27.6 K% at AAA and pitched well in Toronto, but has a 4.92 career ERA
Drew Hutchison struck out 27.6% of batters in 87 AAA innings this season, but just the fact that he's spent that much time in the minors after an awful season last year is a major concern. His big league peripherals rate about league average (13.8 K-BB%) over 400 innings and he actually pitched better at home (15.8 K-BB%, 3.58 ERA, 3.74 FIP career), but just was never able to put it all together with a career 4.92 ERA overall. LHBs and RHBs both have a wOBA just above .330 against him career with an equal hard hit rate just above 31%. Miguel Cabrera (161 wRC+, .218 ISO vs RHP since 2015) is the obvious choice. Nick Castellanos has been surprisingly good against RHP this season (145 wRC+, .223 ISO) and costs just $3.6K on DraftKings. Steven Moya (111 wRC+, .255 ISO career vs RHP) is the value play for less than $3K on either site.
Throwback to 2015 with Vogt batting cleanup
Stephen Vogt has been a streaky hitter, but when he making good contact, he is viable option against right-handed pitching. Vogt and his 0.353 wOBA versus RHP in 2015 will face Drew Hutchison in Toronto. Hutchison was actually worse against right-handed batters in 2015, but still posted a wOBA of 0.325 against LHB. Pairing Vogt with Billy Burns, Mark Canha, or Josh Reddick batting 1,2, and 3 would not be a poor strategy.
