Drew Robinson (sore hip) scratched Monday; Renato Nunez replaces
Robinson has been scratched from the Texas Rangers original confirmed lineup and will not play in Monday's matchup against the Texas Rangers due to left hip soreness. He'll be replaced in the lineup by Renato Nunez, who will third base and slot directly into Robinson's vacated ninth spot in the order, which does move Isiah Kiner-Falefa over to second base, but ultimately, the remainder of the Rangers lineup stays intact as they face off against right-hander Michael Fulmer at home this evening.
Marco Estrada had just a 27.5 GB% (.366 wOBA) vs RHBs last season, which could be a problem in Texas
With a low risk of PPD in Kevin's afternoon forecast, this Toronto/Texas game might be the safest of the weather concern games assuming players aren't interested in the pitchers. Marco Estrada faulted sleep deprivation and anxiety for his issues last season, no joking matter and absolutely able to mess with anyone's work performance. You'd imagine he didn't sleep much before his first start this season against the Yankees, and while he did go seven innings, his strikeouts and home runs both totaled two and were exceeded by his three walks. An extreme fly ball pitcher (30.2 GB% last season) with a park downgrade in Texas, doesn't produce a confident projection, though he should accumulate a few more strikeouts here. A reverse-platoon split for his career, RHBs really torched him for a .366 wOBA last season with the ground ball rate dropping to 27.5%. Adrian Beltre has a 120 wRC+ and .203 ISO vs RHP since last season, the most complete hitter in the lineup without the platoon advantage. Robinson Chirinos (94 wRC+, .221 ISO) and Drew Robinson (102 wRC+, .220 ISO) are both cheap (< $3K on either site) and dangerous. Joey Gallo (121 wRC+, .345 ISO, 46.1 Hard%) can't be taken out of the discussion against a fly ball pitcher in this park despite the reverse split. An amazing 57.1% of his contact against RHP last year was in the air.
Will Middlebrooks scratched Saturday; Drew Robinson replaces and will bat ninth
Middlebrooks has officially been scratched from the Texas Rangers lineup for tonight's game against the Oakland Athletics as a response to Oakland's starting pitching change to Raul Alcantara from the southpaw, Sean Manaea. He'll be replaced in the lineup by Drew Robinson, who will take over the third base duties and bat ninth. Since Robinson is slotting directly into Middlebrooks' former spot in the batting order, the remainder of the Athletics previously confirmed lineup does remain unchanged.
Adrian Beltre and Shin-Soo Choo both have a 190 wRC+, 45+ Hard% last seven days
Troy Scribner is a 26 year-old rookie with 13.1 major league innings to his name. His 14.7 K-BB% at AAA this season (103 innings) is his highest rate since A ball in 2014. He also hasn't had a ground ball rate above 40.5% since then either. That's not necessarily a terrible thing in Los Angeles and the big park should help him out against a Texas offense with an 82 wRC+ on the road and 23.7 K% vs RHP. There's really no discernible reason that would make him a pitcher players would want to use here except for a low cost in a big park and that players may need one of those on DraftKings. The Rangers have the fifth highest implied run line on the slate, but that's still only 4.39 runs. The top lineup target should be Adrian Beltre (130 wRC+, .236 ISO vs RHP). He has a 191 wRC+ and 47.4 Hard% over the last week. Shin-Soo Choo (109 wRC+, .162 ISO) is a bit more affordable near the top of the lineup, having a similar week (190 wRC+, 50 Hard%). Drew Robinson has handled RHP (118 wRC+, .238 ISO) and costs a bit above the minimum.
