Glenn Sparkman Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
LHBs hav ea .385 wOBA and 47.2 Hard% against Glenn Sparkman
The Chicago White Sox don’t contain a lot of firepower in their lineup, but a matchup with Glenn Sparkman may be too much to pass up. Aside from having just a 13% strikeout rate, Sparkman has allowed the highest aEV on the board (90.6 mph), which has led to a .362 xwOBA, which is tied for the worst mark on the board. While batters from either side of the plate have at least a .340 wOBA and xwOBA against him, LHBs have really punished him with a .385 wOBA, .374 xwOBA and 47.2 Hard%. This pushes the White Sox up to a 5.6 implied run line that’s currently seventh best on the board. Yoan Moncada (149 wRC+, .254 ISO vs RHP) is the lone elite LHB in the lineup, but consider Tim Anderson (133 wRC+, .188 ISO), Jose Abreu (100 wRC+, .221 ISO) and Eloy Jimenez (105 wRC+, .238 ISO) from the right side as well. Zack Collins (75 wRC+, .167 ISO) is a cheap Catcher eligible bat, who had a 140 wRC+ at AAA.
Indians have a team 130 wRC+ over the last week
Glenn Sparkman has a 12.7 K% with the worst Z-O-Swing% on the board (46.9%). Along with this, he carries an average exit velocity of 91.3 mph. As such, his .364 xwOBA is behind only Clayton Richard today, among pitchers who have made more than one start. The Cleveland lineup is suddenly smoking (130 team wRC+ last seven days) and will probably be well represented tonight at 5.83 runs, but still should have some value with reasonable price tags in the middle of the order. Jason Kipnis (120 wRC+, .193 ISO vs RHP last calendar year) and Jose Ramirez (100 wRC+, .196 ISO) are two of the hotter bats in the lineup, both above a 160 wRC+ over the last week. More expensively, Francisco Lindor (112 wRC+, .226 ISO), Oscar Mercado (141 wRC+, .184 ISO) and Carlos Santana (115 wRC+, .204 ISO) are projected to appear in the top third of the order tonight. All will bat from the left side against Sparkman, who has allowed a .342 wOBA, .361 xwOBA, 43.1 Hard%, and 39 GB% against LHBs over the last calendar year.
White Sox lineup has value and upside in great matchup vs. Sparkman
Glenn Sparkman has a 3.77 ERA for the Royals this year over 31 innings, but everything in his profile suggests that number should be much higher. He’s got a 5.09 xFIP, 4.98 SIERA, 8.2% K-BB, 27% Hard-Soft and just a 7.6% SwStr. He’s also sporting a horrendous .371 xwOBA allowed and 92 MPH aEV. Over the past 30 days, Sparkman has a 5.78 xFIP, 6.37 SIERA, 3% K-BB, .425 xwOBA allowed and 93.1 MPH aEV. Yoan Moncada (.399 xwOBA vs. RHP this year), Jose Abreu (.372), Wellington Castillo (.362), Tim Anderson (.353), Eloy Jimenez (.313) and Yonder Alonso (.301) are all solid options this afternoon vs. Sparkman. Leury Garcia (.273) projects to leadoff and occasionally will steal a base with 7 on the year, he also has a .339 xwOBA over the past 2 weeks. Castillo, Alonso and Jimenez are all available under $3.5k on Draftkings and project to be in the top-6 of the White Sox order. The White Sox have a 4.89 implied total vs. Sparkman and the Royals this afternoon.
Most important bats still present for well projected offense resting players
While the Indians are resting a few players, the biggest dogs are still in the lineup: Francisco Lindor (119 wRC+, .249 ISO vs RHP) and Jose Ramirez (159 wRC+, .315 ISO). Against Glenn Sparkman, batters from either side of the plate are above a .340 wOBA in 33 innings this year. He has not exceeded four innings in any outing, start or relief, and is backed by a poor bullpen (4.66 FIP, 8.3 K-BB% last 30 days). Cleveland has a 5.25 implied run line that's second best on the board and they should sustain most of that even with this lineup. Greg Allen (79 wRC+, .091 ISO) bats second and costs just $2.5K on FD.
A 14.9 K% at AAA and his first major league start
Twenty-six year old Glenn Sparkman makes his first major league start. He's pitched eight times out of the bullpen for the Royals since the start of July with an 18.9 K% and 89.7 mph aEV. In 10 AAA starts this season, he had a 14.9 K%. He'd only previously thrown eight innings at AAA last year. The Blue Jays are one of four teams above five implied runs (5.06) and should have some success here. Randal Grichuk (105 wRC+, .266 ISO), Justin Smoak (132 wRC+, .249 ISO) and Teoscar Hernandez (119 wRC+, .250 ISO) are the above average bats against RHP over the last calendar year in this lineup. Kendrys Morales (97 wRC+, .182 ISO) is a lower priced option in the cleanup spot.
